Why is cussing so bad? I guess the real question is why are cuss words cuss words??? They're just words! We call them disrespectful and crude, but really, there are other words that describe the same things, and the meaning is really what makes it a cuss word, isnt it???

Doesnt anyone else think we, as a society should accept these words like any other words? Because, in truth, THEY ARE JUST WORDS!!!

Another thing: people say teenagers cuss so much...well they're all just doing it to be "bad." So if we make it socially acceptable, it wont be bad anymore and therefore will acutally be used LESS!

Anyone else agree with me??

The logical answer to this is:

There are some things appropriate for work and somethings that aren't. For instance, you wouldn't start making out with your co-worker in front of your boss (even if you wanted to) and you wouldn't purposely wreck equiptment.
The same theory applies to life. "Cussing" is disrespectful because of the meanings people put behing the word. Many of these "just words" were socially acceptable back (WAY back into times like B.C. and a maybe even a couple hundred years A.D.) People infused these words with the wrong meaning and now they're bad. We have to get used to it.

Haven't you heard the saying "The pen is mightier than the sword" Words a powerful, hun, and everyone needs to learn that. I see where you are coming from though....

Dear Mezzo,

i guess since this is in the religion and spirituality section- i'll give you that sort of answer.

The Bible teaches that: Words are a reflection of what is meditated upon in your head, and what is upon your heart. It's not the words themselves but it's what it says about your heart.

Your words can either bless people or curse people. Hence cussing also cursing. Calling someone an "....#!$#@" or "#!@$#@!" contradicts values of building people up, encouraging people, valuing people, and ultimately having those opposite values can damage your life in many ways.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

I think that they're curse words because people want to use curse words, rather than being curse words because other people are offended by the arrangement of letters. It's those who use them who define the parameters of how to use them as curse words, which is why they are curse words.

Each "word" has a MEANING and behind that MEANING is an "sense" attached to it.....in other words.....they arent just words.......words do mean something and effect people in different ways.......with words there is an essense of emotions, feeling, action (good or bad) etc.....ya get the point.....(I hope)

I agree that they shouldn't be classified as bad, but fact is that they are and so if people choose to say them, then they are doing that it the knowledge that they are being disrespectful and so that is their intent- that is why they are offensive, if they were not offensive people wouldn't say them because the reason they are said is purposely to cause offense.

The Bible warns against using certain language..... and "just words" as you call it, are very powerful. Be careful with that power.

The words are "bad" because they make people feel "bad".
