Well as you know I want to get my tongue piercing and before I get abused and told 'Don't do it its bad for your teeth' or whatever else you say, I know it CAN be bad for your teeth and all that stuff sooo back to the point.
I want to get it peirced now (Thursday night) because we dont have school tomorrow..so i have until Monday for it to un-swell a bit..
My question is will I be able to talk properly in 4 days and will most of the swelling be down, and what can I do or take to speed up the healing process????

Ohhh and because I don't want it to be that noticable for the first weeks can you get it pierced with a metal bar and get a clear ball put on the top instead of a silver one???

Thanks to anyone who doesnt say 'Dont do it' or 'Its ugly'
xo

The swelling should go down around day 3 or 4, but it will vary from person to person. Sucking on ice cubes and taking ibuprofen every 4-6 hours will also help the swelling. As far as the clear ball, you will have to ask the person performing the peircing if he will allow you to do this. Some do, some dont. Good luck...and dont worry it doesnt hurt as bad as you think it will!

I've had my tongue pierced for almost 7 years now and it hasn't caused any dental trouble. it'll probably take a little more than 4 days for the swelling to go down but everybody is different. find out from before you have it done if you can geta clear ball instead of the metal one. i had just the plain silver one for a long time and not many people noticed it. i'm in nursing school and my instructors haven't seen caught on. my dad still doesn't know and most of my in-laws have no clue. once you have it done start sucking on ice, even before the swelling starts, and don't stop. other than that just make sure you follow the after care directions and don't get it done if you have doubts about the place.

The swelling should be down in 4 days, but for some people is lasts up to a week. If you have a speech to give on Monday, I'd say wait. The only thing you can do for healing is keep up on your aftercare.

Most plastics are not healing safe, and I'm pretty sure you'll need a metal bead for the healing period. Although, if they have glass ones (they're tougher than you think), maybe. The best bet is to ask, but I don't think so.

There's no rush. Get it pierced when you can dedicate the time and energy to healing it.

i got mine done and it actually didnt hurt at all. i didnt even know when he stuck the needle through. the swelling has a lot to do with how quickly your body heals....mine was just a little bit swolen...i could still talk, and eat normally, and the swelling went down within 48 hours. it will probably take a little bit for you to be able to talk normally because the bar is a foreign object and we all know its a little harder to talk with something else in your mouth. id say within 4 days you should be fine though. im sure if you ask the person doing the piercing he or she might be able to switch the ball on the top, i dont know that it will do any good though, because for a while all youre going to want to do is play with it. lol

everyone is different as far as swelling mine didn't swell at all, but a lot of peoples do and everyone seems to say it takes about 3 to 4 days. just make sure and each time you eat or drink anything rinse your mouth out with Listerine, it will help kill any bacteria. my tongue was pierced with an acyclic ball and had no problem at all as a matter of a fact that what most professional piercer's will use. and they will let you pick which one you want. also if you go with an acyclic make sure the bar is 316l surgical steel, and the piercer has ran it through an autoclave before piecing. also when clean the acrylic balls don't soak them in alcohol it breaks them down and cause them to break.

Well, the swelling should go down within about 4 days or so. Just keep sucking on ice, or drink lots of cold water. And make sure to rinse your mouth with mouthwash to keep it clean although saliva pretty much does the trick.

As for the clear ball, you have to check with the person who's piercing it for you because the standard one is normally the metal one.

And try not to eat food thats too solid cause it makes the healing slow down abit.

Good luck! =)

I think tongue rings are great...I've got one...now your tongue is going to swell but only for a couple of days...just eat lots of ice, take Ibuprofane for any pain, and don't eat anything hot for a few days, and use oral peroxide and mouthwash, and you'll be fine...and as far as the tongue ring itself .. you can what ever you want in there...my first one was purple and blue..and the tattoo/piercing guy is the one that put it in..and it does not mess up your teeth(only if the person doing is dumb enough to put it all the way by the tip of your tongue..it's supposed to be almost in the middle.

I got mine pierced a few years back and was shocked at how quickly it healed. I think I was lucky because there was barely any swelling and no change in my speech at all.

I drank a lot of ice water and ate ice to help with any swelling and used the solution they give you after eating and drinking.

As for the bar I'm pretty sure you have to have the standard one until it heals, less chance of infection.

Good luck with it.

Well if you get it done tonight, you cant eat anything like meat, or anything hard for the next few days. Its water, yogurt, things like that. As for the swelling going down, by Monday it should be down a bit, and you should be able to talk some what normal. But everyone is different. When I got mine done a few years ago It took about 3 days for me to be able to talk normal. Just follow the instrutions they give you when you get it done, and that will help it alot. As for the color of the bar, thats something your going to have to ask them.

Very good idea! But it will really hurt. It's really pretty, but it hurts for the first time. I felt really sharp pain in my tongue when I got mine, and after. I felt it 1-2 weeks long. I couldn't really talk for 2-3 days. You mustn't drink milk or anything milky, not to smoke too much and don't try to use your tongue for sexual things...
If you have a plastic piercing it isn't bad for your teeth.
