The first one we rented, the second one we rented, the third one I read reviews that it was just too violent for little ones, so I've disallowed that one until she's older. She's disappointed, but she'll live. :)
She's a big fan of pirates, and although there were a few parts I didn't like for her, I covered her eyes through those and she still enjoyed the movie. Of course we talked about the negative aspects of the movie, so she understands it, and doesn't go around asking her grandparents "but why is there no rum?"

My daughter just turned 7 in May and has loved the Pirates movies since the first one... she loves Jack Sparrow... and shes constantly cracking up at the movies... She was a pirate for Halloween and has just about everything on the shelves for pirates... and had a Pirate of the C. b-day party this year... my daughter wasnt ever really the kind to play pretend.. but now after these movies shes doing it alot... always outside pretending to be on the black pearl and being one of the characters... she hasnt seen it at the theatre, but we bought them after they were out on dvd and shes just itching to see the 3rd one!! it just depends on how the child reacts to sometimes creepy images... bones, skulls, davy jones... lol...ive always talked to my kids and made clear that those people are just actors and we always watch the special features so they can see how the movie was made and hear the actors talking about the roles they play

I got lots of thumbs downs last time I answered and will again but mine are 8 and they have seen them all. I watched them first and found them to be okay for them. In Australia it has an M rating which is over 15 unless with a parent. It is the only M movies they have seen. I won't let them see spiderman or anything like that but this to them was okay. They were not scared and class them as their favourite movies. I am against kids watching movies that are too old for them for many reasons such as swearing and sex and general bitchyness in many even PG movies (I will not let my daughter watch Bring it on as they don't need to see all the attitude and swearing and this is classed PG) But an example of why i let them watch this movie is things go over their heads. As all the killing is done off camera and not seen my kids didn't realise it was happening. 5 Minutes into a fight scene my son asked me if people die in this movie. He didn't realise it was happening. They know it was pure fiction and found it very funny.
And though it sounds bad I also chose this for them to see as sadly they are the only kids who had not seen an M rated movie. I was on the bus with them to go to school swimming lessons and all the boys are talking about all these movies I would never let my kids watch and when a boy can not join in on these conversations it makes them stand out and picked on (why won't your mum let you see them . are you a baby?) so by me choosing the most appropriate older movie he can say he has seen them and does not stand out or appear different. At this age kids notice the differences and it is important to not stand out. So I made a choice and I stick by it. Will he see other M movies, most likely not, do I regret letting them watch it ? No. Of all the M movies out there this is pretty tame. No swearing, no sex and off screen violence . I was with them the whole time to what how they coped and it was fine

I don't really think they are at all bad. I honestly think 8/9 years old can see these movies no problem. There are a few adult jokes, about drinking and such. I love the line, "where's the rum" It's great.
Honestly, I think these movies are rated PG-13 because of the fighting scenes and such. But, I think if kids know the difference between pretend and reality, they will be fine.

It would depend a little on the child and how well adjusted or mature he or she was, but I would use the 13 as a guide and plan on taking him or her at age 13 or older.
My youngest son was pretty well adjusted and I took him to R rated movies when he was younger than 17, but I was careful which ones I took him to and why the movie had that particular rating.

At least 13 - although I am not sure I agree with movie ratings. When in doubt see it yourself first and then decide.
It really bugs me when I go to like a rated R action flick and there are tons of kids. I want to yell at the parents about how irresponsible they are being, but I never would!

I keep strict rules when it comes to movies, but honestly my sons (7and 8) saw the second one last summer, and there wasn't one thing that I found offensive to them. Each child is different, and if they're sensitive to anything the least bit scary, then perhaps they're not ready. Normally pg13 is out for my kids, but this didnt' seem to warrant that rating to me.

depeneds on your child. How well they take "scary" images, and understand fowl language, violence etc. and How you feel about a child seeing it. My sister thinks her son should watch nothing but JJ the jet plane and sesame street. he'll probably be 18 before he sees something like that, I think my son can be taught its just a movie. he's 3 and loves watchin gPirates, he's not scared, (not old enough to know what they talk about) but he knows not to repeat them also. and he knows not to jump around and fight like them.
it depends on how YOU control the situation and problems that could arise from watching it. and it depends on your child., now if it was me as a 7yr old or whatever i would have been scared to death...like i was when i saw jurassic park as a child
