Having sex is just going throught the mechanics of the mating process with little or no feelings for the other partner. (Visualize the "time to make the donuts" guy). Making love is something you do when you have a special someone that you have a relationship with, and care deeply for; enough that you would like to bring a few moments of pleasure into their life. Although the two acts may appear similar, when you take you lover into your arms, hold them close, look into their eyes and whisper about how you love them until they respond and they are overwhelmed by the urge to take the relatrionship to a more intimate level, the difference will become like night and day!

A little of both. Variety is the key when it comes to the bedroom. Sometimes you are not just up for the long drawn out emotional thing. Sometimes a "quickie" would do. And it doesn't have to involve deep emotions. After all, sometimes we forget that it is a physical act. Something to satisfy our hormonal cravings.
