According to the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, both fathers and mothers can take 12 weeks of unpaid time off to care for a new or adopted child. The law covers all government workers as well as private companies with 50 or more employees.
Plus there may be additional laws in your state.

It depends on your company, but usually you get two weeks after the birth of paid time (sometimes not paid) also the government says you get six weeks unpaid time as well. However I'm not sure if the total would be 8 weeks or they limit you to the 6 weeks of total time. However, not all companies give the extra 6 weeks off.

You can have 1 or 2 weeks, if you have 2 weeks they have to be taken together & within 56 days of the birth of the baby . ( you can not have it before!).
You must have been with that employer for 26 weeks before the 15th week of the pregnancy .
it is £ 110.00 per week which, of course is taxable.
You must inform your employer of the dates you wish to take Paternity leave by the end of the 15th week the baby is due.
Good Luck.

If you visit the Inland Revenue website www.hmrc.gov.uk there is a form for paternity leave on there that you can print off, fill in and give to your employer.
You usually get up to 2 weeks paid leave! Abit too short if you ask me, but some employers will give you longer (prob not paid though) just depends on employer really.

He can use his 12 weeks of family medical leave, if he needs to. With my job, I have to use all my personal, vacation, and sick time, before I can use my fmla. I took of about 4 weeks when my wife had are son.

If you are in CA look up family medical leave. Or if you aren't, look it up anyway for your state/country. They may have something like it that you can use(in CA you get money from the state to care for someone, in this case it would be your new baby)
congrats! :O)
