There's this strange elitist mentality that if you're afraid of the pain then you shouldn't get a tattoo. It gets even more annoying when people claim that having bits of metal jabbed over and over into your skin doesn't hurt or that people who think it does hurt are p***ies.
I have tattoos going across my spine and on both feet (one of which took 3 hours, tvym). I have others, too, but those three hurt like hell. I knew they would, was willing to put myself through that, but was still scared of the pain.
It's a natural human response. It's a very healthy human response. Pain hurts because it's one of the ways our bodies protect themselves.
Not even to mention the fact that people feel pain in entirely different degrees.
So why do so many people seem to be such a$$e$ when it comes to telling others they are wimps if they're concerned about pain? Why do they have to be all condescending and say that if people are afraid of pain then they aren't ready for tattoos?

I'm asking why some people are jerks when people are afraid of the pain a tattoo might cause.
Not asking why or how it hurts, obviously, because I did cover that.
I'm askling why people need to be mean to others who aren't throwing parties because pain is just so cool and tough.

They already went through it...........so now they are cool with it.
The more people that they can make afraid or feel bad, makes them even cooler.........
Most virgins that come to me are filled with anxiety and fear
because of what others told them.
I just sit and talk with them for a while to try and calm them down.

Well it might come up because the question of how painful a tattoo is gets damn annoying fast. EVEN if it is a very legitmate question for a virgin to the ink to ask. I wondered the same before i got mine done but, i searched online and just read what other people said and didn't post asking about it on here. Some tats i am sure hurt like a leg hell but other ones like if someone thought a tattoo on the calf like i have would hurt like hell i probably would think the person was somewhat of a wimp but i wouldn't say anything or degrade the person for it. I can honestly say that i thought the pain was VERY minimal and that the majority of it felt good and i don't say that to feel any better about myself.

Answer this question, if this was a restaurant, would you put up with a rude waiter? Their are a LOT of tattoo shops and artists out there...and competition can be fierce (especially since the economy is still soft). With gas at $4/gallon, people are putting that money into their gas tanks instead of in ink. Two shops within 2 miles of where I live have closed shop in the last few weeks. The artist I go to isn't much of a talker, in fact he's a bit of a loaner, but he's never been rude and is one great artist. Find another shop.

Because when people find something obnoxious, they swing to the other end of the spectrum just to be obnoxious back. We all do it.

And I admit, these people who are like "OMG WHAT IF I LIKE DIE OR SOMETHING!?!" are really hilariously obnoxious. I mean, why would so many people do it if it hurt bad enough to put you into shock?

I guess you're refering to the question a couple posts down, about anesthetic during tattooing. C'mon. That's rediculous. The anesthetic could kill you, but you'd rather potentially die than feel a bit of a sting from a tattoo? You gotta admit, now THAT is chickenshit!

I don't think they're doing it seriously. They're just doing it because these people are rediculous.

But really, if you aren't prepared for a little pain, you AREN'T ready for a tattoo. There is no safe and readily available way to reduce the pain by any appreciable degree, so you pretty much have to suck it up. And so does everyone else who has a tattoo. So stop whining, you know?

You find it annoying that people claim it doesn't hurt?

I find it annoying that you seem to be claiming that because yours hurt like hell, they all do.

I have a lot of tattoo's, one of which took 7 hours (two sittings). I have them on my feet, back, legs, angle bones (inside and out), the thing is I didn't think any of them 'hurt like hell'. They stung a bit, some more painful than others but nothing extreme, so I guess my pain tolerance is higher than yours. Did you stop to think that the people who say it don't hurt, say it because that's their experience? Because they have a high tolerance for pain therefor it didn't 'hurt like hell?'

As for the attitude some people seem to have, you get that with everything, there's always the 'elitist' who think they're better than everyone else.

When they are putting people down , it's not even about the subject. They would put people down, over the type of dog they would choose. They just want to feel big.
Any tattoo is going to hurt...how much...depends on you and the artist doing the job. Life is pain..why not get something beautiful out of it. Tattoos are a great personal art form.

Some people are like that, honestly my tattoo did not hurt one bit, and its on the inside of my wrist, but I can handle pain when it comes to things like that. Others cant, its normal, it does not mean your a baby or anything like that. Some people think that because it does not hurt them, then it should not hurt anyone. But different tattoos on different parts of the body causes different amounts of pain. Some people dont understand that.

I think Cherry Blossom gave you a pretty good explanation. Of course there's going to be some degree of pain involved, the degree generally depending on the area of the body involved, and it's only natural to be a little concerned about it. If I were you, I wouldn't concern myself with what these people have to say. They're simply ignorant of the full meaning of the question, but you're not going to be able to get them to "get it" either, so don't waste your energy and emotion.

maybe because it's an irritating and over-posted question - it's been asked hundreds of times, and won't change the fact that tattoos will be painful for some people. it's basically a stupid question that doesn't need to be asked that many times - just search the answers first!

I dunno. Seems like some kind of weird pseudo-traditional-masculine ideology to me to call people who even _admit_ they're in obvious pain wusses. There's nothing wrong with admitting you're in pain or afraid of pain. It doesn't mean you can't "deal" with it. And I wouldn't call it an "elitist" mentality exactly. These people don't think they're "better" necessarily; it seems they're just trying to intimidate. It's like ridiculing someone starting to get sick from drinking all night for not taking another shot with his/her friends - ridiculing the person who knows and admits his/her limits.

I was totally terrified to get my eyebrow pierced, but I wanted to anyway and it ended up not hurting at all - and not bleeding.

You already answered the question yourself. "It's a natural human response. It's a very healthy human response. Pain hurts because it's one of the ways our bodies protect themselves.
Not even to mention the fact that people feel pain in entirely different degrees."
can anybody answer my last question, c'mon nobody has answered it and I feel left out.
