Probably the officer train 1-2 hour every session, at least twice a week. The BJJ submissions are very lethal, and takes several months to execute successfully, and you need a strong grip. The knowledge is there integrity to protect public safety, and just would have to learn the BJJ basics and to subdue the violent offenders actions. Therefore majority of officer lift weight and target practice at gun ranges regularly, which give them an advantage over common people. They have the solid grip before learning BJJ. You probably heard right! BJJ is a great martial arts for self-defense, and all ages.

They probably only train to be proficient enough to counter and subdue any suspect who might try to ground and pound them. I doubt they would initiate an attack using BJJ techniques as this would be impractical and dangerous especially since they have a gun holstered at their hip. Just imagine trying to ground and pound a suspect only to end up getting shot with your own gun.

they don't need to become a black belter to become efficient. there are simple but effective techniques that you can learn easily and develop it in a short period of time. ranking is only done for formality. some people only knew a few techniques but they are very efficient fighters even defeating a black belt.

I think they more or less just give them the basics with a few important holds. Most likely they use it to retain a suspect until they can put the cuffs on them.
