I have two outdoor cats that get ticks on their eyelids and ears. I try taking them off myself, but they always seem to wind up back on them. Is there anything I can do to keep them off for good? They dont have a vet, so are there other alternatives to medicines like frontline?

I know how to remove them properly -- using a needle-nosed plier type of tool, grab hold of the "body" and pull straight out -- do NOT twist as you could leave part of the tick inside their skin and it could become infected. My cats are indoors only so they don't get ticks. I'd try the following test: rub vaseline on their eyelids and ears. That should keep the ticks off those areas. To test this, you could put it on one side of the cat and not the other side or one cat and not the other cat and see the results. Are they getting ticks on the side without the vaseline? They may try to wash it off, so you'll have to put it continue to put it on.

I also use Revolution, did on my Indoor-Outdoor cat and on my current Indoor cat. Once a month and it keeps the cat clear. You can buy Revolution online (as well as Frontline) but any anti-worm should be given after a vet (SPCA clinic) has looked at them because if they have worms, the preventative can make a mess inside.

yes..i loove revolution flea and tick killer/preventer....also try bathing them in flea-tick baths. but be careful.
