I once permed my hair then added a semi-permanent color afterwards. It really started to burn, so I removed it. Then it seemed as if my hair just started to fall out, shedding ridiculously. Overtime it's continued to fall but only when it's wet.? Does anyone know why? It's very stringy and breaks easily when wet. My hair still continues to grow but like I said, whenever wet it comes out. I havent had a perm since 7/7/06 and when I wash it I get the same results. CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE???

Thanks for the comments guys. I have been to a dermatologist but he didnt offer much help. I know its not alopecia. Like I said it only happens when I wash. My hair is very thick and coarse, and when done correctly actually looks pretty good. I still know that it isnt the way it used to be and that bothers me. I'll take the advice on the daily conditioning routine and see if that helps. I've been wearing braids since my last perm, sorry no wigs or extenions. So with that my hair is very "nappy" I guess you could say. Perhaps I worded my question wrong, my hair is continuing to grow, the question is will it ever be restored to its healthiest? Im sure I did over processed it but dang its been years since that happened and now almost a year without chemicals and still nothing? Maybe the moisture from the conditioning will contribute to a healthier head of hair. If anyone else has suggestions dont be afraid to share!!! Thanks a BUNCH

I got a perm in 1996 that totally messed up my hair forever. I'm finally growing out a half-way decent head of hair now, but it's not nearly as thick as it used to be.

don't listen t the alopecia answer, its ridiculous and it seems she is jusy trying to scare you with ridiculous information....you simply overprocessed your hair, and TRUST ME, i have done this too. my hair would break and fall out and whatnot...since it is stipped of all of its original moisture, u have to put a leave in conditioner in it every day (put a dollop of conditioner into a spray bottle of water and this works wonders) and do it about twice a day (BUT DO NOT WASH IT EVERYDAY EITHER, IT STRIPS THE HAIR OF ALL ITS MOISTURE) u have to let your hair "heal"
leave it alone. no chemicals, wsh it after swimming, wear a hat if you're going to the beach....you can also cut it very very short to it grows out again...it sounds like the hair is way too overprocessed to revive, but i don't know what your hair looks like...but i hope uhave good luck with this. i have ha grwat luck with the conditioner.

You should see a dermatologist. You may have alopecia.

Your hair should not be falling out a year after you damaged it. Your scalp could be injured. Get a doc to take a look.

This is terrible. I hope it gets back to normal soon!

Too much chemicals. Your hair will grow back but it'll take some time.

Buy extensions or a wig? You can get them at a salon or cheap on ebay.

Good luck!
