I have met a few and it's not a drinking problem per se. But what are your thoughts on alcohol of any kind for a Christian? Is wine ok? I don't drink but am curious. Thanks

I think it is wrong. I know the Bible says it a sin to get drunk. It also says we are not to do anything that can cause someone to slip, and we are to avoid even the very appearance of evil. If someone that you have have been witnessing to or that knows you are a Christian sees you drinking alcohol they will think that the church is no different then the rest of the sin filled world so why should I go there. It is all about the witness and your relationship with God.

Many people like to make fun of Christians by commenting that Jesus was a drinker in the Bible. You have to remember that back then wine was not exactly the same as it is now. You also have to remember that the Bible does not say Jesus got drunk. Yes, they had wine at the last supper, but no one was dancing across the table afterwards.

I believe that is certainly fine to drink a respectable amount of alcohol. I do not believe it is okay to get drunk. That is not the way God wants us to act and behave. Having a glass of wine to compliment your dinner is one thing but having shots until you're plastered at a bar is another.

FYI: Noah was the first person to ever get drunk. It was done completely by accident. Some of the grapes/juice had been sitting in the sun too long. This can be found in the Bible. I belive it is in the first book, Genesis.

I personally don't drink because I just don't care for the taste of alcohol. However, I have many Christian friends who will have a beer when we go out to dinner. The Bible just tells us not to take part in drunkeness. Jesus turned water into wine for people at a wedding, therefore he wants us to be able to celebrate, but in moderation. Nothing before Him should become an idol.

Jesus turned water into wine for a wedding. it was drunk to add to the celebration and festivities, and i don't recall there ever being any mention of drunkenness, violence or anything like that. that must tell us something. i don't think drinking alcohol is a sin. moderation is probably the key here. when someone puts ANYTHING before Jesus, even if it's alcohol, i believe that is a sin. i'm not proud to tell you that i did that in the past with my alcoholism. i relied on the alcohol to remove my pain and to escape the world of reality. i believed a lie. i was living a life motivated by fear. today i put my faith in God, Jesus, Holy Spirit to face everything that comes my way. i am only able to do that in sobriety. it's all been a blessing but it took a long time to see that.
thanks for the great question.

The apostle Paul says to be moderate. He also recommends a little wine for Timothy's stomach.

One time my son and I did a search of the Bible(the online NIV which is a very accurate translation). What we discovered was that the Bible used different words for grape juice, new wine and wine. So if Jesus or anyone else said wine in the Bible they meant wine, not grape juice.

Now scripture does also say that wine is a mocker and bear is a brawler. And condemns drunkenness(excess). So I have concluded it is OK in moderation.

Personally I hardly ever drink any more because life is much better sober and alert.

The Bible shows Jesus as a promoter of drinking. He instructed his apostles to drink wine at the last supper. In fact, his first so-called "miracle" was turning barrels of water into good wine.

If you would have asked me this question last summer I would have said sure drinking is cool. but now a year later, and a year wiser. I would have to say no drinking is not cool. drinking opens the door to the devil to mess with our minds and our lives. even if a person doesn't get drunk or get a "buzz" they are opening up for the devil to do what he pleases in there life. I know this from experince. we are the temple of the holy spirit, when someone becomes born again, they become the temple of God. and God's temple needs to stay holy, pure, clean. to often people think that it's ok to just drink and not get drunk and that as long as they do get excessive with it they will be fine, well eventual people do get excessive with it. so the key is to ask God to forgive you and cleanse you of this unrighteousness and ask him to deliever you,so you no longer have a desire for it. I have done this and no longer have a desire to drink, believe me a person will be tested, I have. and I have passed each test.

The commandment given to Christians is "do not be given to strong drink". This means do not let yourself be lost to it.
Jesus drank wine and loved eating. He even made the finest wine of all time for use at a wedding feast, and in very generous portion. It is the abuse of any thing that is wrong.

Roughly 75% of Christians have no problem with drinking. When Prince Vladimir of Kiev decided to convert to Christianity, one of his key motivators was the fact that Christianity allowed alcohol. Jack Daniels was a Baptist minister, for gooness' sake. The 25% of Christians who oppose alcohol are predominantly American, and are derived from the temperance movement of the early 20th century.

some do and some dont
some do bc god drank wine
and he also mentions that it is ok to drink but not to get drunk. if you get drunk that is wrong.
and some disagree with it bc it gives the christians a bad look or reputation and they want to be a light to the world and some feel if they have a beer or wine in their hand some of the worldly people will doubt that they are with God truely and some christians dont want people to think that.
it is a prefrence really. and what they believe some think it is ok and some dont but all do agree that getting drunk is not what God intended and wanted. HE did say in the that it is ok to drink but not to get drunk but he never said you could not not drink. just not to get drunk.
but you have to see how people see it now a days most people see it as wrong and ungodly so you have to becareful.
hope i answered your question.
