One of my boys did this too. As irritating as it was, it only lasted a week or two. I think it was the sound and sensation of cause-and-effect. It probably soothes the gums until the teeth have broken through completely.

Remember, too that these teeth are temporary and any damage that may be done will only last until they fall out.

I have found my son doing this ever since the first two on top and bottom came in. My ped. said not to make a big deal about it and it might go away, however it is like nails on a chalkboard to me. So instead we try to relieve his pain by giving him a frozen waffle to chew on, he seems to like the cold on his gums. Then when all else fails we give him Tylenol to help.

My little brother did that - it was because his gums hurt.

Offer him a cooled/chilled chew ring. A chold, damp cotton wash cloth works in a pinch too.

If you're really concerned check w/ your pediatrician - you can probably call or fax in your question & ask if you need an appt. so the doctor can examine your baby's teeth.

Just ignore it. My son did it and I ignored it and he stopped. Give him a frozen washcloth when he does it or a teething ring. He has discovered a new sound that probably feels good too.

My oldest did this, and my youngest sometimes does it now at 10 mos. He will likely grow out of it.
