Hi,
I'll read you verses from the bible that answers what you don't understand yet.
There's a resurrection of the dead in the bible. Let's read in John 5:28-29 the Lord Jesus Christ said,
"Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice,
and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment."
So there's resurrection of the dead.
You will face judgement seat of Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:10
"For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad."
In Revelations 20:11-13 it says,
"And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. "
If you do good, you'll be brought to eternal life. but if you do evil, you'll suffer everlasting punishment.
Daniel 12:2
"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
Revelations 14:9-11
"And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a great voice, If any man worshippeth the beast and his image, and receiveth a mark on his forehead, or upon his hand,
he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is prepared unmixed in the cup of his anger; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
and the smoke of their torment goeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, they that worship the beast and his image, and whoso receiveth the mark of his name. "

When we die, there is nothing. No afterlife, no next life, nothing. Last breath, then all done. No more consciousness. And I'm okay with that. I do not feel the need to have more. I live life to the fullest with my friends and family members now, not wait for some heavenly place to worship god.

If you want the truth, I suggest you get yourself a New Living translation of the Holy Bible, it is written in plain modern English. Read it. God will give you all the answers to the questions you asked. Don't listen to any one else.

Our thought processes -- who we are -- are created in our brains. No functional brain, no me. Just as I did not exist before I was born, I will not exist after I die.
Brain damage can change who we are/were:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage
"Gage was fitful, irreverent, indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which was not previously his custom), manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint or advice when it conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinate, yet capricious and vacillating, devising many plans of future operations, which are no sooner arranged than they are abandoned in turn for others appearing more feasible. A child in his intellectual capacity and manifestations, he has the animal passions of a strong man. Previous to his injury, although untrained in the schools, he possessed a well-balanced mind, and was looked upon by those who knew him as a shrewd, smart businessman, very energetic and persistent in executing all his plans of operation. In this regard his mind was radically changed, so decidedly that his friends and acquaintances said he was 'no longer Gage.' "

Possible explanations for déjà vu:
http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/neuro/neuro98/202s98-paper2/Johnson2.html
"What causes a déjà vu episode? There are several possible explanations for what is occurring during a déjà vu experience. One possibility is simply the occasional mismatch made by the brain in its continuous attempt to create whole sensical pictures out of very small pieces of information. Looking at memory as a hologram, only bits of sensory information are needed for the brain to reconstruct entire three-dimensional images. When the brain receives a small sensory input (a sight, a smell, a sound) that is strikingly similar to such a detail experienced in the past, the entire memory image is brought forward. The brain has taken the past to be the present by virtue of one tiny bit of sensory information. It is this mismatch of past and present sensory information that causes the sense of disconcertment and unease associated with a passing déjà vu. This theory provides a satisfactory explanation for the physical effects of déjà vu. These appear to be similar to the effects of mismatch between sensory input and corollary discharge signal information to the brain. It does not, however, seem to provide sufficient answers to individual (even my own) accounts of déjà vu, where the memory image pulled up is not necessarily from a true past event.
"Another explanation for déjà vu is that there is a slight malfunctioning between the long and short-term memory circuits of the brain. Somehow, specific information shortcuts its way from short to long-term memory storage, bypassing the usual mechanisms used for storage transfer. The details concerning this shortcut are not yet well understood. When this new, recent piece of information is drawn upon, the person thinks that the piece is coming from long-term storage and so must have come from the distant past. A similar theory says that the error is in the timing of the perceptive and cognitive processes. Sensory information is rerouted on its way to memory storage and, so, is not immediately perceived. This short delay causes the sensation of experiencing and remembering something at the same time, a very unsettling feeling. One other explanation is that déjà vu is actually the process of remembering memory connections, of following the impulses and synapses. All of these neurobiologically based explanations for déjà vu seem plausible and intriguing and perhaps there is some overlap or combination that accounts for the different experiences we call déjà vu."

"The exciting thing about déjà vu is that it is the results of two opposing evaluations, the knowledge that something hasn't happened before but the feeling that it has," Moulin said in his blog. "We believe that one of the functions of the temporal lobe [a part of the brain located behind the ears] is to produce these feelings of memory. Sometimes, when this area is overactive, or 'tricked' into thinking something is familiar, we get a brief sensation of feeling something is old but knowing it is new."

You should read a Sylvia Browne book. I love all her books, they teach you about life and afterlife. Some people think she's just a bunch of BS, but I believe her. There's too much I can write about this question, so it's easier if you read one of her books. Read a few and you'll understand even more.

Do not get into reincarnation or any other man made inventions or cults, etc. ONLY get into Truth, which is the Word of God. I'll tell you what God has to say, ok? After one dies, the body returns to dust where it remains until Jesus reunites it with their Spirit. When you die, your Spirit, goes immediately to Heaven or hell, depending on who you chose to believe, obey and follow while on earth--Jesus or satan. We all live forever, whether with God/Jesus or apart from God/Jesus. We only have ONE life to choose our eternal destiny. We are not promised tomorrrow, so the Bible tells us "Today is the Day of Salvation". Please discern all answers with God's Holy Word and not man's opinions. God bless
