You daughter is not overweight. She is within a healthy BMI, although she is closer to the upper end of the scale. If she is muscular this is a good thing. It means most of her weight is probably muscle and not fat, and muscle definitely weighs more than fat. Some people have so much muscle that they are over their healthy BMI, but its okay because they are athletic and their muscle tone must be factored into the equation. As long as she continues to stay active and eats properly, she should be fine. Anyway, at twelve, she still hasn't finished developing, so she may lose some of the weight as she moves into her teens.

nope simply because of the fact that muscle weighs more than fat. the term overweight is misleading and that is why you should be more worried if your daughter is obese. she may be overweight becuase of her muscle but not obese because she is fit and probably has a lot lower body fat than some girls who are a little lighter than her.
i had the exact same thing happen when i started to lift for football. i put on 15 pounds of football so according to my doctors height/weight chart i was overweight for my height but not obese so there is nothing to worry about

muscular people will usually be qualified as overweight because muscle is denser than fat. in that sort of respect the BMI is inaccurate. but hey if your daughter's in shape then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. just don't let her go near any weight measures unless she's comfortable with her with weight

why would you worry about her weight? Just prepare healthy meals and have healthy snacks in visible places and dont keep any junk food at home.
she gona grow for quite a few years and her weight and height will change. Dont even mention word "overweight" to her - it will not be good for her self esteem if the closest person in the world to her thinks she is fat.

Well my son is 12, 172.5 lbs, 5'6. When we took him to a doctor he was fine but his bmi is 95.2 which means he is obese. He looks fine but really is not. Try finding a bmi calculator online and a body fat % calculator too.

no she's not. her weight isn't as important as her body fat percentage, and even at her age unless she's the size of a whale she's still healthy because of puberty.
