Excellent! As long as you use the right equipment. Sony tapes have had the best results for me.

I own a Sony Handycam HC36 and a Sony VX2000.

The 2 track sound system is awesome. 16 bit, uncompressed digital audio, CD plus quality. However the 4 track is not a good option, 12 bit and poorly compressed.

The video is the same system as used for most of the broadcast television recorders. The main difference for pro gear is better lenses, external mics, heavier batteries and lighting systems but the same resolution as miniDV tape.

it was the industry standard until hd came out...still extremely good tho
