System Restore works a lot like the Undo command in Microsoft Word. You can use System Restore to remove any system changes that were made since the last time you remember your computer working correctly. System Restore does not affect your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e–mail) so you won't lose changes made to these files.

Your programs should not have been removed if you did in fact do a normal restore. Are you sure you lost the programs or shortcuts to the programs? Have you tried opening Add/Remove in the Control Panel -- carefully -- to see if they are still listed?

that should not happen, as system restore only restores drives. but if you used somethink like norton goback, then those files are gone, and anythink else that you did uptill now will be restored to 3 weeks ago, like game saves, files saves, work. anythink!!
