First off, THOU SHALL NOT KILL, and the Bible clearly states to avoid governments because they are corrupt, I do not salute the flag, i don not do the pledge of allegiance.

I served 4 years in the Marines, I was a Christian and also Gay. Without a strong military defense our country wouldn't exist and would be under the power of other countries that wouldn't allow us to worship God and have the freedoms that we have. I believe God wants us to protect ourselves from Evil and to defend our children from those that want to kill them. And unfortunately people have to die so we can live. Our Military men and women are the true Martyrs.

Tough question. When to fight...Because the Bible does say there is a time to kill. How can police officers be Christians and shoot criminals and murderers? Because they are doing what is right. Christians are not to be involved in wars based on politics. I personally have mixed feelings about this war. I do believe there are bad people who need to be stopped, but I don't feel we should do it just to protect "our interests". I think if a Christian must bear arms in a battle, He must be fully sure that the cause is for the good of others, and not just for this government per say. It is not easy to say when it is right. I think I can say for sure that WW2 was definitely a war that was just. I cannot say anything past that with certainty. Medics are nice, because they can always serve their country with a clear conscience, they are only healing people. Sorry I don't have a better answer, I guess in closing I will say that I don't totally buy into the idea that we are always the good guys and we should always do what our government tells us. I am Christian first, and an American second.

A very few people join the military for the opportunity to slaughter their fellows. I know better then to say none but far fewer then you think. More go for economic reasons such as a chance to pay for college or simply a job to support their family. many go because they believe their country is threatened and they want to help.
Being a good Christian means avoiding violence when ever you can. But it doesn't mean refusing to defend the helpless because violence is required. If you a Christian and someone just murdered your first born child and now is turning on your second do you turn the other cheek or save your child? Christians should not seek violence but if violence seeks them then sometimes they must stand and fight.
If you disagree with the war in Iraq then blame the politicians who started it not the poor folks who have to die there. Soldiers don't start wars. leaders do and they always have.

war was commonplace in bible for establishment of goverments and regions...God commanded his army..Do you think the "real christians" only use nerf guns? after all The US was founded as a one nation under God and much of it is still that way except for the tearing of our moral fiber and values that is in existance these days

In Exodus 15:3 we see God as a warrior. But the context is the destruction of the Egyptian Army. As we all know, Egypt had enslaved the Israelite nation and God simply became their warrior and delivered them. In Joel 3:9-10 we see a prophetic statement as the book of Joel clearly is prophetic in nature. In other words, there will come a time when it is required to fight.
There is no contradiction for God to be both the Lord who battles unrighteousness and also loves peace. This is just as true with people, who are really peaceful by nature, but will fight when the time requires it.

Jesus & God Almighty believed in this life it was necessary to have soldiers, police, an army trained, ready to defend, protect itself against enemies domestic and foreign.

We as Americans, as Christians are not in Iraq to kill the innocent people of Iraq, we are there to destroy the terrorist threat that have declared jihad against all Americans. And have proved that they will do so on 9/11. They did so against the U.S.S. Cole, they did so at the American military barracks in Beirut, etc. etc.

Terrorist have no respect for their own lives, much less the innocent, or anyone else. They must be eliminated in order for the rest of the free world and the innocent to live.

Far more readily than those who send them to be killed. The "just war" is dead if it ever existed. There are very good people in our Armed forces who are not there because they want to kill anybody, they see themselves in a bad situation trying their best to keep others from killing innocent people in Iraq while praying they survive to the end of their tour of duty, after which there are fewer and fewer captains and sargents reenlisting.

Jesus said his true followers were no part of the world. You cannot be a true Christain and a soldier involved in government. Jesus said, those who live by the sword will die by the sword, and told his Apostle to put away his sword, a true Christain's sword, is God's written word the Bible.

Most soldiers, whether they are religious or not, understand that their job is to kill people and destroy things. While the military certainly has its fair share of Christian fundamentalists who believe they are engaged in a "crusade" against the "jihadists", most of these kids don't think about these issues. They just do as they're told, just like everybody else.

Seriously, the Christian religion and those who follow it have been responsible for more murder, slaughter, forced conversions, torture, burning people alive, inquisitions, crusades, wars, and mayhem than any religion at any time in recorded, known history. It's the NATURE of the religion.

Why would you even ask how can people who call themselves "true christians" go off to Iraq and kill people for their country? It's their CHRISTIAN DUTY, just like it has been throughout the ages to murder and slaughter others for whatever reasons they have or are given at the time for doing so.

A better question would have been "why WOULDN'T people who call themselves "true christians" go off to Iraq and kill people for their country".

And Christians today will say "those christians in the past who were responsible for so much murder and slaughter WORLD WIDE, weren't TRUE Christians!"

Yes, they were. They were the CHURCH and what it teaches, and it's followers who were taught, and that is true Christianity.

Unless they are pacifists I doubt very much their religion comes into it. They are professional soldiers. Can Christians go into the army is the only question here.
