I would sit as far away as possible during the meetings... if anyone says anything, politely say the smoke bothers you a lot... Oh, & cover your mouth and nose w/ your shirt... maybe some will get the point... It is not cool to smoke, so don't worry about looking like some goody-goody or something.
They blow it around you with no cares, then wave it away & hack & cough to let them know it bothers you...
Others have good advice, find a non-smoking work area.
Maybe someone will be courteous & give it a break.
If managers say something, just explain it to them... YOu are not trying to be rude or out of touch at the meetings, but the smoke REALLY bothers you.
I served at a restaurant that had a smoking section & since I made such a fuss, they always put me in non-smoking. Although< I do have asthma...
But I did still get stuck in there a couple of times & I hated it, too.
The link below tells of all the dangers, which I know you have read, but maybe a point will stand out to you to give you some conviction for standing up for YOUR rights as a breather of air!

If you can't ask to be positioned away from the smoking area- just try to stay back in the kitchen away from it or another section as much as you can.
If it's really THAT bad- you may want to find a job at a non-smoking facility.
Good luck.

I can't believe how duped by the second hand smoke propaganda. It is not NOT proven about the effects of second hand smoke on non smokers. I do not smoke and really don't care for i, but most friends i have do smoke. I did the research on second hand smoke and saw that all the propaganda will tell you one test that was flawed and is discredited by the medical community. If you don't like it stand somewhere else. Don't get all boo hoo about it.

Based on the environment at your work, it sounds like it would be very hard to change things. I suggest getting a job at a restaurant that doesn't allow smoking...what else can you do? It is proven NOT to be good for your health. If you don't smoke personally, why stick around and have YOUR health affected?

If the smoke is offensive to you try to stay out of the direct line as they exhale. However, studies that show second hand smoke as harmful have been shown to be flawed, or outright fraud. Don't worry about the health effects, and be smart, don't ever start smoking yourself.

Find a new job! Second hand smoke is worse than if you smoked yourself. No joke hear my friend. Time to hit the job market again. Or ask to be put in a section that is smoke free.

The most effective way to minimize the effects of second hand smoke is simple--start smoking.
It is also the most effective way to look cool.
