Are you still in pain in the mornings when you get up? It may be as simple as the mattress you're sleeping on. Or it may be a form of arthritis that is most troublesome when lying down and first thing in the morning. Ankylosing spondylitis is often misdiagnosed and overlooked for years due to doctors looking for other causes of the pain in the hips and buttocks. A simple blood test can tell whether you carry the gene for it and are susceptible to the disease.

If you've already tried switching mattresses, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees. If the pain doesn't improve and/or gets worse, it's time to go to the doctor and get checked out.
