My cat is very old and lately she has been drinking a lot of water, and won't stop meowing until she gets more. Even uses the sink, toilet, and shower to get the water if she needs it. So, needless to say she's drinking more, her litter pan fills pretty fast. What's wrong with her? I'm going to take her to the vet, but I want to know now, whats going on?

She may be diabetic, excessive thirst is one of the symptoms.

Here are some more symptoms.

What Are the Symptoms of Feline Diabetes?

* Excessive thirst and urination
* Loss of weight due to the body's inability to handle glucose
* Vomiting
* Loss of appetite
* Weakness
* Poor skin and coat condition
* Breathing abnormalities
* Dehydration

It can be treated...take your cat to the vet as soon as you can.

Good luck!

Although I'm not sure what the cause could be, a few things to make life a bit more comfortable for you both...
Get a water fountain. You can find them at nearly any pet sore, they circulate the water, filter it, and keep it fresh. It's much more healthy, and your cat may not drink as much if she's getting healthier water.
Try the Indoor cat food formulas, they help normalize your cat's PH levels. As a added bonus, your litterbox doesn't smell half as bad.

I can't tell you what's going on, but I can say that it is not normal for a cat to drink a lot of water. Please take her to the vet as soon as you can. I waited through a weekend and my kitty died. I don't know if it would have made a difference if I had taken her to the emergency hospital, but I sure wish I had.

Apparently dehydration is the problem. It could be in the digestive tract but I am not expert on feline medicine, but I do have cats. Since she is drinking is a good sign, but you are right in taking her to a vet to find out the underlying source of the problem.

It could be a number of things. You won't get a proper diagnosis here only guesses. Not even your vet could tell you without seeing your cat first. If you want me to guess.... OK ... Feline Diabetes or a urinary tract infection.

Kidney problems, bladder problems or diabetes. Offer her a little salt. That might cause her to retain a little water and maybe she won't have to drink so voraciously.

Just check it out.
such as this: http://www.vetinfo4cats.com/cdrinkandurin.html#Excessive%20drinking%20and%20urinating

I hope the two sites help.

She may be dehydrated (of course), but animals often drink more when they're on medicine and when they have an internal problem, such as bladder/kindney issues.

She might have a UTI. It could be because of her food. Your vet should be able to suggest a type of food that may help.

it sounds to me like she might have diabetes... i took care of a cat w/ diabetes before and it wasn't hard. I just had to give him a shot once a day & he was fine.
