We cannot prove anything within the mind of another...people who make that statement are "judging" the actions which is still wrong....We cannot know if someone "loses" faith is or is not a christian, the foolishness is in making that decision for them...
You are right, responses like that are out of arrogance, pride and ignorance...
Excellent question....

Unfortunately, this is one of the many problems with Reformed theology. It's by nature judgmental. A good option is balanced & truly biblical Lutheran Reformation theology.
'God is love,' sure we all sin by "rewriting God's rules", but for people to teach those rewritten rules is a different story than holding the views out of ignorance.
disgruntled_penguin, I suggest you learn about Lutheran theology. A good book to start with is 'Spirituality of the Cross' by Gene Edward Veith. Another resource is: http://www.lcms.org/pages/internal.asp?NavID=112
And "Issues Etc." is a radio show you can listen to online (or MP3): http://www.kfuoam.org/ie_main.htm
I think you would enjoy these resources. Blessings.

You can prove a person is not a Christian only if you know for a fact that the person has never been baptized.
Being baptized makes a person a Christian. No matter what a person does after that, he or she is still a Christian.
MANY Christians lose their faith, unfortunately.
How about you? Are you a Christian who has lost his faith?
Only you know the answers to those questions, not I. I would never presume to tell you were never a Christian, no matter what you do.
Yours In Christ Jesus, Grace

Jesus in the parable of the sower and the seed talked about false conversion. He even describes what happens in each instance of a false conversion. So through good hermeneutic skills and the ability to learn, I know what the signs of a false conversion are.

You're absolutely right. Those are the kind of people you just can't waste your time talking to. I used to believe that everyone could be reasoned with. Now I know better.

The same way you can prove that someone has a relationship with Jesus.
Oh, wait. You can't really show that either.
Invisible friends are difficult to demonstrate.

"Did you ever bother to inform God that you are rewriting His rules?"
Yes. I have my own pantheon and we fight and argue the whole time.

It's called dogma, and designed to make everything your fault. As long as you want to try, do it. Return to your first love...Revelation...
