Our family is planning a trip to Lake Havasu city this weekend with our family dog. I would like to know if it is OK for the dog given that it will probably reach 110 degrees.

Yes, give the dog plenty of cool water not cold or it could throw up. As important, get booties for the dog to wear on its feet, get the hard soles with cloth. The ground is hot and will burn the dogs pads on it's feet. Also get a life jacket for the dog even labs get tired and the heat will tire them faster. Boots and life jackets are available at most pet stores

Make contingency plans. Is there anywhere you can take the dog to cool him off if he gets too hot? Can you put him in the car and drive around the block with the cooler on? Do you have adequate shade for him? Please find the name and address of an emergency vet in Havasu, one that will be open during the weekend, just in case. DO NOT LEAVE HIM BY HIMSELF IN THE CAR FOR EVEN "JUST ONE MINUTE" IN HAVASU OR ANY OTHER HOT PLACE!!!

I'm from the low desert, and we always had dogs and took them with us. They were used to the heat, however. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the signs of overheating in a dog. If you're not used to that weather, it might be a good idea to find out about the signs of heat distress in humans, too! Consider getting him a summer haircut if he's a long-haired dog.

My self i would leave him home as 110 is to hot for any dog or animal.. If you do bring him; make sure you have lots of shade and lots of cold water and always have shade for you too as everyone can dehydrate in 110 degrees..Let him go in the lake as that will be cooling for the whole family dog included,,,,good luck ,.

it depends how big your dog is, and for how long hes outside without cooling off...(i have a large lab and here in florida when its in the 90s he cant be out for more than 1/2 an hour even with lots of water).
if the dogs smaller, it should be ok as long as the car has good a/c and he has plenty of cold water, at least he gets to swim when u get there.

Make sure he always has plenty of fresh water, always has access to shade and is NEVER EVER left in the car, even with the windows down. Wetting his coat down, especially his head, will help too. You can also get cooling blankets for him to lay on and/or cooling vests or collars. These are filled with beads that you soak in water and help keep him cool. A portable fan might be a good idea too. NEVER NEVER NEVER leave him in the sun or the car though.

That is pretty hot. Dogs can only cool themselves by panting, and if it is too hot and too humid, they may not be able to cool properly. You can help by hosing the dog down with cool water often, have lots of cool water available, and keep to the shade and air conditioning. Dogs with pushed in faces have a much harder time breathing and cooling off. I'd be very cautious and if you are not sure how he would do, board him or have a pet sitter take care of him at home.

You should take extra precautions such as assuring he has shade, plenty of water, and ice. Make sure there is A/C available for him for at least the hottest times of the day and make sure you research what to do in case of over heating. You will also want to locate the closest vet and have their phone number handy just in case. Remember, it's better to err on the side of caution.

Dogs can cope with a lot. Make sure he gets enough to drink. Maybe he likes to swim? This would help to keep him cool. My dogs like to eat ice cubes when they are hot. It seems to help them cool off. Good luck and keep an eye on him.

Hi I would suggest you don't but if you do make sure he's out of direct sunlight for long periods of time. with PLENTY of shade for him to rest in and LOTS of water and even some ice in it to keep it very cool. Remember dogs CANNOT sweat like us they have to pant to stay cool.
