We have laws so that it is not just the persons own interpretation that matters, what is not illegal is permissible.

The morality of America is going straight down the toilet. I had posted a question earlier if common courtesy and respect were still taught by parents. I can not believe how some parents are raising their children. I am teaching my daughter to be polite, courteous, and respectful she is only 19 months but it is never too early to start. I don't think you can pick and choose what is right or wrong to fit your needs or wants. Children are not respectful of their elders or their peers and the parents of these children do nothing about it. They don't take the time to teach them any better. It's hard to show your children the right way, when there are so many others not doing anything to show their children right from wrong. I'll teach my daughter the things my parents taught me and be proud of the fact that I did the best for my daughter.

It seems to me the status right now is Confused! As stated in your question, it implies we can now "interpret" right and wrong. The common sense idea that right is simply right, and wrong is simply wrong, has gotten lost among the rubble of failed philosophies, new age mumbo jumbo, and the concluding years of the "Me" generation, a.k.a. the "Baby Boomers". Doing your "own thing" has been proven a failure, and a matter of semantics between it, and the "Cult of Selfishness.
So there is a LOT of wreckage a parent must now carefully sift through in order to teach what works. Of course the the simple but powerful basic morality contained in the Bible has been ridiculed and vilified to the point people are afraid to even consider it. They "threw to baby out with the bathwater", and most of the believers that remain just pick and choose from the bible like "Morality a'la carte". Hypocrites. I can only hope and pray that there is another "Great Awakening" that will clear away the current hubris touted as wisdom.

I teach my children right from wrong. Most importantly, I make them think about it, understand it, make it their own. And yes, there are some things that are not black and white, and are open for individual interpretation.
I think the status of morality in America sucks. Parents need to spend more time with their kids, and lead by example. From the state of how rude people are today, I'd say most parents are not setting a good example at all. They also need to show their children true respect before they demand it for themselves.
And for those who wish to blame it on our school, and lack of prayer and all that nonsense.. I went to school in the 70's and 80's, without a single school prayer.. and I have not so much as a parking ticket to my name. DON'T be a chicken and blame kids' problems on the schools. Their training begins and ends AT HOME.

it is now politically incorrect to teach morality in US public schools.
So we have a generation of immoral kids comming out of the school system.
Bill Clinton... fined $900,000 for lies told to a gran jury and proven to be a womanizer is held up as an example of how people are supposed to act.
Its disgusting.
Of the 10 commandments... 7 are simply the basic precepts of civilization. Without those basic rules... civilization falls.
Like Rome appx 100AD to 500AD... The US (and many other countries) is headed toward a major social revolt if things don't get turned around.

I will teach my children to live by the laws of the land, and the laws of God. If everyone interprets things their own way, their would be no order to the law.

I think we're doing pretty well, with the possible except of what the churches are spewing - hate towards gay people, trying to shut down legitimate businesses (like adult pornography), no sex before marriage or sex ed, limits on free speech. In fact, the only thing that's holding back morality in this country is religion.

Some things are illegal, and they are left to the police & the courts. Things that are simply "immoral" are left to the individual and the community groups they want to associate with.
