Claritin seems to help me, as long as I take it before I'm exposed to the pet dander. And it doesn't make me feel drowsy.

The best medication over the counter for allergies that is non-sedating is Claritin (loratadine). It is approved for children as young as 2 years old. For ages 2-5, the dose is 5 mg by either syrup or chewable tablets once daily. Anyone over 6 can take one 10 mg tablet once daily.
Chlorpheniramine is approved only for ages 6 and up, and it can cause sedation but less than diphenhydramine.
Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) is approved for children ages 2 and up, but is the most sedating allergy medicine. That is why it is usually used in nighttime formulations.
For the best recommendation, ask you pharmacist and they can recommend an allergy medication and dosing schedule.

Benadryl - only thing that works best on cat dander. And remind her not to touch her face/mouth if possible. Wash hands after touching cats and upon leaving the party. Have the clothes she wore for the party removed and washed before wearing them again.

Do the claritin, yes, but precautionary: If she does not handle the cats, she will be best off, and when she is there, just have he wash her hands every 45 minutes or so--keep her hands away from her face, and don't sit on upholstered furniture!

I don't know her age so it is hard to say but Benedryl always worked for my children butttttt it did make them sleepy. My suggestion is to ask your Pediatrician as you don't want to give your child something that she might not really need.
