The pentacle has been around for longer than Christianity, so therefore the Christians labeled it a "symbol of satan" to discourage people from using it. These are the same Christians who labeled all other belief systems as "pagan" (among many other things). So when your mom preaches to you about how it's wrong and whatnot, tell her "I respect your belief system so please respect mine". She'll probably be stumped and won't say anything, till next time anyway...

Other than that, I agree with everyone else... If you don't know what it's all about, then don't wear it as a "status symbol". Research and learn, then decide if you want to continue down this path...

P.S.: A pentacle as symbol of Satan must be strictly upside-down, that is, the center point must be facing downwards.

There is no convincing. She has made up her mind and thats it.

If you do not know what Wicca means, please go pick up Gerald Gardner's books at a bookstore or library and follow them up with the Farrar's "The Witches Way" and "Eight Sabbats for Witches".

Wicca, the word itself, essentially meant 'wise one'.

Now the final question, what are you doing wear the symbol if you don't even know the first thing about the religion that utilizes it?

And as for respecting your mother and her house, I say that when you finally, truly, and fully understand the religion of Wicca and PRACTICE it, only then is it appropriate for you to wear the pentacle. Your mother is a parent and you are her child, she needs to learn and cope just as much as you do. You don't wake up one day with the full knowledge of parenting, being a parent is a life long journey that she needs to learn herself and this is something that she needs to face in that journey just as much as something you need to face in wearing the symbol.

However, at this point it seems that your necklace is more fad and fashion than religious iconography.

Kristin, I have been a practicing Wiccan since 1971. So, let me give the advice of an old sage and Crony. First off, the Pentacle is only a piece of jewelry. It no more makes you a Witch than wearing a cross makes a Christian a follower of Christ. They're ONLY outward symbols of your beliefs. It is obvious to me that you are still a minor and as such you NEED to follow the rules that your parents set for you. If that means putting up your pent, then so mote it be.
Your pent has NO power of it's own, anyway. That lies within YOU and only within you. Goddess takes NO offense if you wear a pent or not.
If you're desire to wear your pent is as an act of rebellion against the wishes of your mother, then THAT is the WRONG reason to do so. As a youth your first obligation is to LEARN. Not only to learn but also to develop a sense of discipline as well. The fact that you seem to be unable to accept that is a sign from Goddess that you are NOT ready to follow the Old Ways. and, need more time to mature and become wiser. Being a Witch is NOT an easy thing to do, it's a hard life, full of folks who will HATE you for what you are, simply because they do NOT know what the Craft is all about. They have no desire to either learn, tolerate nor accept us as People who follow a religion that's JUST as valid as their own. If you're having a difficult time with your mother (and she LOVES you), then think of the difficulties that lie ahead in dealing with folks who don't even KNOW you.
If you're trying to join a coven and that coven has adults in it and they DO accept you without your mother's permission then child,.....RUN from them and run quickly. They do NOT have your best interests at heart and most likely are out to exploit you. If you wish to join a coven of ONLY youngsters your own age, then WATCH OUT. No one has the experience and wisdom to guide you through the strange twists and pitfalls that lie in your paths. Child, in either event you DO need to wait, now is too soon for you. If, when you are older and have more life experience, you still feel the same way then you will be on your own and more able to locate a suitable teacher. Goddess will wait for you if that is to be your destiny. Being a Witch is NOT about spells and shocking your friends and family with your religion, it's about WISDOM, self-control, meditation, Loving, discipline. If you can demonstrate to your mother that yuo DO have the maturity and self control to follow the craft then SHOW it by honoring her wishes and rules NOW. Do so in a mature fashion. Read about Wicca if you must, just LET her read your materials FIRST. One book that I highly recommend that a beginner read first is titled "Someone I know is a Witch". I can't think of the Author right offhand but that book IS available at most libraries. Check it out and let your mother read it first. If she thinks that YOU have the maturity level to read it, then she'll say so. Not only that, she'll see YOU in an entirely NEW light and MAY decide that you MAY have enough maturity to explore a little bit further. BUT from what I read in your question, I don't see much in the way of that needed maturity and would ask that you wait a year or two before making that sort of move. Patience is one of the MOST important qualities that Witches try to develop. And that is the MOST important quality that YOU must develop. OUR ways mean that we adopt a very hard life. The life of a Witch is NOT as COOL as you've seen on "Charmed". What you are contemplating is a whole NEW way of life. A life of hardship, a life of VERY hard work, a life of HARD study, and a life of a LOT of self discipline. It DOES have it's rewards too. There is simply no way to explain the sheer ecstacy that one undergoes everytime the Goddess communicates with your spirit. The sheer thrill that happens when the GOD takes you on a night's Rade, the absolute total bliss one feels when Goddess or God enters your physical body in a drawing down ceremony, and the deep "rush" you feel when Goddess or God imparts some deep thought of wisdom or insight that you'd NEVER find on your own. THIS is WHY I am a Witch. But when I first wanted to follow the craft, I too had to learn this patience and wait for a few years till I had the mental and spiritual capacities to undertake this wonderful journey. Goddess is giving you a few insights right now, things to look forward to. But, ONLY if you wait, do it properly, and not simply rush off on your own because you do NOT have the inner tools to truly experience what it is to be a Witch. Not yet anyway ;). I KNOW that this is NOT the answer that you were looking for BUT, it IS the answer that you TRULY need.

Is your mom Christian? If she is tell her the Christians used the symbol for a while to symbolize the 5 wounds of Christ.

Also tell her that Satanists use the pentacle but INVERT it and usually put a ram's head in the center.

No matter what you say you aren't going to change her mind. I would just go out and do my thing and show her that I am a better person for having adopted the symbol. But you really should do some research on things.

...if you don't know and you claim to practice it, you are ridiculous. You need to learn about it before you can preach it. Your mom is ignorant. No point in wasting your breath.
