it is believed that there would be:
no good without evil.
no light without darkness.
no...well you get the point.
would it be safe to say that there would be no atheism without religion?

We do live in a world of metaphors where we come to know by making comparison. Is there anything we can know directly without comparing it?

I question the premise of your correlation, but would point out that without religion, we would all be atheists. Indeed, we are all born atheists and only become religious after having been taught to be so. The existence of one thing (darkness, light, good, evil, etc.) does not necessarily entail the existence of its opposite.

No one would label themselves as atheist, because everyone would be atheist.
Similarly if the only life in the universe was Homosapien Sapien, then everyone would still be human we just wouldn't need terminology to distinguish ourselves as human.

Some of you are a bit silly. They're not opposites. None of us would believe in God, therefore we would have no need for the term atheist.

If it wasn't for religion, the technological, social, political, and environmental advances would be way ahead of where we are today, and humanity as a whole could stand back and be proud of what they have achieved..
Alas, back to reality and the dark ages..

i would think so, yes. because in a sense, atheism is the opposite of religion,a belief in not a religion

Very safe to say. They would poof away like hot air without us Christians, which proves their non meaning since they can't stand alone. We Christians however, would be just fine without them.

absolutely...without God to protest against, there would be no reason to be condemning anyone who follows religion.
