I am always amazed at the sheer ignorance, denial, and false assertions the christian fundies or creationists spew forth in this forum. Truly, some of the god fearing, science hating and brainwshed remarks are almost frightening in their infantile concepts of reality..

So I am curious, does anyone have an "informed" guesstimate of what percentage of the USA is in this collective bubble of religious denial and ignorance..?

I'm aware of the christian's: "more people are coming over to god" and "more scientists believe in god" lies and arguments, but does anyone have an objective estimate of the percentage of the population who are like this?

I think it is a big worry, and the children they brainwash should be of great concern as well..

I can understand [although disagree] why the state would enjoy an easily controlled, uninformed political power base, but what drives this denial and ignorance in the individual..?

I pity America for this infestation of lies and ignorance.

Appart from the very people I am referring to, thanks for the replies. A frightening statistic.
I fear that until this type ofm plitical power base is "difused", one could expect more G.W.B type governments and similair world peace and environmental issues to today..

To the fruitcakes, "thanks for nothing..!!"..

There was a recent Gallup poll that broke down this statistic along party lines. It is scary, and sad.

I guess I'd have to ask: How many who believed blindly in evolution are now starting to question it? As science reveals that Darwinian evolution is an impossibility, how many are looking at different "theories" now. When is it time to just give up on this fallacy? A great embarrassment is coming. Get ready. I'm not saying that they are all converting to Christianity but they are starting to question the validity of the lie they have been taught for so long. Says something about science if you ask me. Grasping for straws just so they can rule their lives and live as they please. Still doesn't change the fact that there is a God. (I thought I'd throw the word "fact" in there for you evolutionists)

i went to the second paragraph and stopped. then i thought "an informed guesstimate is an oxymoron.

anyways. here's a poll i saw: of the current adult generation, 30- some- odd% were bible-reading christians. the kids today...9%.

also. you must be relly dumb if you that brainwashed bit is the best you could think of. lemme save you some time (note that i'm using very definate words) we're NOT brainwashed and you ARE not educated at all in the matter. what makes you think that we are brainwashed? maybe you were brainwashed to think that. why would we worship a god that isn't there? if he wasn't there then we would be brainwashed to belive that. the matter of the fact is that he does exist and that we love and worship him because he loved us first. go ahead, report me for insulting your intelligence. see if i care. hallelujah

I maybe wrong but somewhere I read that over 44% Americans believe that Jesus will come back and take them all to heaven, in their very lives on earth within few years.

And THAT is more scary.

Because they believe end of world is near and they just don't care for environment anymore, except for paying their insurance premiums, which I doubt is unnecessary since earth will end soon. Hmmm...

Whatever the percentage is it is too high.

I am honestly afraid that if these people can believe in a religious text over empirical science that they might also be convinced to commit terrible acts of violence in the name of religion.

This is not a complete answer, but latest statistics say that Evangelical fundamentalists are numbered in the US at 30 million.

Around 50% which is a bit scary if you are actually American.

For one thing, to be God fearing should not be science hating - shame on those who are so ignorant.

The science, which I suppose is evolution, is flawed and the evidence is incomplete and unlinked. Evolution remains an unproven theory.

See if Gallop has the stats you are looking for.
