it's for a story I'm writing and what happened is that he hesitated on telling her he loved her and she didn't believe him when he did finally say he loved her.

Wow... if a guy would sacrifice all dignity to prove his love for me, I'd probably run screaming in the other direction.

It doesn't have to be a large gesture, love is proven in all the small gestures - things that prove that he's thinking of her and puts her first in his life. Flowers when she's had a bad day, dropping her off at the door when the weather is bad and then parking the car alone, choosing her favorite restaurant, asking about her day and actually listening to her answer.... *sigh* :D

The best way I can think of (this is the way I would want) would be the guy comes to your door with a bouquet of your favorite flowers and then opens the car door for you and takes you to a super nice dinner at a candlelight resturant with dancing and a required dressy dress code of dresses or skirts and suits with ties. An then later some ice cream from an expensive ice cream place. And at both places there would be some massive cheek kissing and some lip kissing (not too too much, not like total all out making out..just nice sweet kisses) and little whisperings of "I love you" into your ear and then later you come home and just snuggle and continue those little sweet kisses...ah if only guys knew how to act.

If it's really love, you shouldn't have to sacrifice you dignity.

Dignity, honor, trust, responsibility are part of real love. You shouldn't have to belittle yourself to prove you are all of those things.

It has to come from inside you. What one guy might do would be entirely cheezy for someone else. Personally, I think that talking openly, completely openly, refusing to judge, is wonderful.
