Peel, core, chop up your apples and put in a saucepan. Put a bit of water (don't cover the apples, but enough-1/2 cup for 4 apples)
Cover the pot and add 1/2-1 cup sugar, let cook until the apples are soft and seem cooked, and add a generous amount of cinnamon. Taste. If you want your applesauce smooth, put it in a blender, otherwise leave it chunky is wonderful. You could add a bit of lemon juice if you have it, but it isn't required.
You could also use an electric hand mixer to 'mash' up the apples if it is more chunky than you like.
YUM.....I make this whenever my apples start to get mushy or start to shrivel. I try not to waste anything, and this is so good the way it is, over pancakes , with scrambled eggs, or just as a side dish to lunch, dinner, or snack. Enjoy!

In much the same way you make mashed potatoes. Peel the apples and cut into chunks. Boil until tender. Then drain completely. You could put butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, maybe a shot of vanilla in there. Mash like you would the potatoes. You can eat it hot or cold.
If your daughter wants to experiment, let her go for it. She can put other fruit in it, like a banana or pear. I think it's great when kids and parents do stuff like this together.

to 4 lbs of peeled, cored, and quartered apples.
4 strips of lemon peel - use a vegetable peeler to strip 4 lengths
Juice of one lemon
3 inches of cinnamon stick
1/4 cup of dark brown sugar
up to 1/2 cup of white sugar
1 cup of water
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Put all ingredients into a large pot. Cover. Bring to boil. Lower heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes and remove from heat. Remove cinnamon sticks and lemon peels. Mash with potato masher.
Ready to serve, either hot or refrigerated. Delicious with vanilla ice cream or vanilla yoghurt.
Freezes easily, lasts up to one year in a cold freezer.
