Let's see ... the Church Christ Himself founded, the one He said He would be with until the end of time, the one to which He said "he who hears you hears Me", and "the Holy Spirit will guide you to all truth", and "whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven", fell into apostacy. Ya right. And a mentally unstable, delusional, violent man more than a thousand years later did a better job of founding the Church than Christ did. Do I have it right??
Getting back to reality - the answer to the original question is obvious from history. There is no historical record of any Christian Church on earth for more than 1,000 years after Christ except the one Church He personally founded on the Apostles, the Catholic Church. The Church Christ founded was calling itself the Holy Catholic Church before the end of the First Century. The first Catholic bishop of Antioch, Ignatius, who was catechised and ordained by the Apostle John, wrote of the Holy Catholic Church in the year 107, and that same Church has been known by that same name ever since.

The New Testament records the history of the church from approximately 30 A.D. to approximately 90 A.D.
The “first church” is the church that is recorded in the New Testament, especially in the Book of Acts and the Epistles of Paul. The New Testament church is the “original church” and the “one true church.” We can know this because it is described, in great detail, in Scripture. The church, as recorded in the New Testament, is God’s pattern and foundation for His church

The original Church which Christ established fell into apostasy (No Apostles, priesthood, or authority due to wickedness, persecutions, and murders of the Apostles)
But Paul spoke of a restitution of all things. So in the last days Christ Church will be restored. Keep in mind it's a restoration not reformation.
So in order for the church to be restored there needed to be a prophet, apostles, and priesthood authority brought back to the earth by those who already had that power.
