Dude, that is one messed up thought process right there. You're telling me that if your significant other was dying, you wouldn't tell a lie to save his/her life? You're SOOOOOOO pious, I'm really impressed.

A life is more precious; you can explain and confess to your lie later and pray that you will be forgiven. If your mother was dying, for example, and you had to tell a white lie that was easy to explain with no hard feeling from people or otherwise to save her life, you'd probably save her life. That is an act of sacrifice and choosing the lesser evil. Sure, it's guilt to tell a lie, but it's even more guilt to feel as if you murdered your mother.
But hey, there are some religious stories about sacrificing a son's life to show your obedience to G-d.
Just follow your heart, your instincts, and choose what you think is the lesser evil.
Hope this helped.

The law is made for people, not people for the law. Many theists claim that without absolute morality, one can't have a viable code of ethics. However, absolutism makes an idol of the law. Any ethical code that puts itself above people puts the cart before the horse.

The philosophy of humanism, in a nutshell, is "people first." Its moral system is not absulute, but neither is it relative. Instead of a list of commandments and prohibitions, it provides an objective standard by which to make moral decisions. A humanist doesn't ask, "Should i make an exception to this law?" like the moral absolutist, nor does he ask, "What feels best?" like the moral relativist. He asks, "What is the right thing to do?"

I think the right thing to do is to save the life.

Corrie ten Boom and her sister had this very discussion during the Nazi occupation of their country. Corrie believed that it was acceptable to lie to save a life, her sister did not.

When you are dealing with evil and have the chance to save a life. If you are absolutely sure that the truth will cause the death of an innocent, then I believe that it would be OK to mislead the evil.

One of the problems we have as Christians is that we have the "harmless as doves" part down, cold. However, we always forget to be "wise as serpents."

There is a higher standard. If I lie in order to save someone's life, it is actually a good thing. Consider Rahab hiding the spies.

Yet, lying is generally wrong. We lie about who we really are, we cheat on our income taxes, we lie to cover up an evil deed we committed...this is not saving someone's life, but feeding our selfish ways.

See the difference?

I would lie in a heartbeat to save another human life because I know God would not only forgive me for my sin but would approve of my helping another person.

I'd lie to save a life. Better to hurt myself than be the cause of another's pain.

Of course I would save a life. What decent human wouldn't. God uses us to fulfill His plans. Maybe it was in His plan for you to save someone's life. Go with it. Listen to Him. The wages of sin is death.
