Is it true that running on a treadmill shortens your stride lenth wich could make you slower.

no not really. When you run on a treadmill you are taking shorter strides then you can be taking in open field, but it doesn't ulmtimately make your stride permanentally shorter!

If the machine is long enough and powerful enough, a treadmill will not necessarily shorten your stride. On the other hand, what we do on the treadmill is not the same as running. One can accomplish a lot of conditioning goals using a treadmill, but if you use the treadmill exclusively and then go out to run, you will be in for a rude surprise in terms of what you are able to do on the road or track compared to what you were doing on the moving belt!

I don't think it shortens your stride length in general, but running on a treadmill is very different than running on ground.

No, not if the treadmill is set at the proper speed and is the right size. If it is too small or too slow you may not be able to take your normal stride. That is one of the reasons I prefer to run outside.

only shorter if you get a cheap treadmill.
