Either she actually has a boyfriend and she is just being honest, or she is just not interested and most girls use that line to cut off the conversatin asap.
It happens to everybody not just you. You might have been the 348th guy to ask her out that week or maybe she is having a bad day. No matter what you look like, if a girl is not in the mood to chat, you have no chance.
Your not doing anything wrong unless your being an *** when you approach her. I suggest when you like someone, try to be their friend first and let the girl get to know you and then introduce the subject of you two hanging out and take it from there.

Try getting to know her as a friend first - after a week or so (perhaps longer), you'll know if she has a boyfriend or not. Then make your move ;);)

That happens when you ask out complete strangers. Nothing wrong with asking but you have to expect it.
