Learn to live on a very low salary.
Many school police are retired police or military, it is a low paying job that supplements a pension and little more.
I have a friend who just retired after being a school district policeman for 12 years.
He took that job after being an Army MP.
He retired from the Army, but did not want to stop working.

Are you sure that a hall monitor position isn't better suited for you? In many places, public schools (elementary through high) have school resource officers. They are city police officers that have been assigned to a particular school. They go through the same academy as any other officer working for the city. Universities often have their own police force which are fully sworn LEOs just like the school resource officers.
