First off, you DO NOT have to go to school to become a bounty hunter. Some states (like California) require a short "certification" program. Anyone who tries to sell you a course, membership in an organization or admittance to a seminar is a thief.

Entry into the profession is primarily based on what you can bring to it (a solid background in skip-tracing and a true understanding of the laws regarding bail are primary), who you know and your willingness to learn the business from an experienced professional.

As far as all this nonsense about concealed weapons permits, martial arts training and all the other Rambo nonsense, ignore it and everything you have ever seen about bounty hunting on tv (particularly that pathetic phony in Hawaii) and in the movies.

check your state's licensing requirements. Ca for example, you need to take two designated courses and be 18. You cannot wear a badge and walk around like Dog the Bounty Hunter and must notify the local police within so many hours to appreand a criminal. You must be 21 and get a concealed weapons permit to carry a handgun. You can start within a few weeks, I suggest you wait till your 21 to purchase a handgun with hollow points and a shotgun with beanbags. Purchase body armor, mag flashlight, pepper spray, but I suggest a tasergun like the police now use. Gloves are most important. I suggest a few karate classes and a few criminal justice courses at community college. You don't need a degree. Its bascially two courses which cost a couple hundred of dollars and one how to be a bounty hunter course for knowledge of the field. You have to get licensed and apply for a conceal weapons permit.
