This is one of the most debated topic between those who represent science and those placing their belief in religion. The biggest theme is belief vs. discovery. Do we believe what we've been taught our entire lives through the holiest of books or do we accept what people with unbelievably high IQs present to us?

Evolution is a theory about how species change over time due to a process known as natural selection. It supports the evidence we have thus far.

Obviously creationism is a myth. Two human beings do not reproduce a species. Also, it's not a good idea to agree with somebody because they are smart. Even intelligent people can be dead wrong.

Finding the answers is more likely among those who are well-informed and interested in studying their field. Evolution is accepted by over 98% of scientists from all disciplines.

I have a biology degree and am a Christian. I believe what the fossil and archaeological evidence shows...there are just civilizations and very intelligent ones at that...no evidence of evolving. I think that it is sad that people believe there has to be one or the other...science or belief in God. After all, the early scientists searched God's word and found scientific laws and answers there. When did that all change? Maybe if we as Christians and scientists would go back to the Bible, wow who knows what we could find.

Evolution is the change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species. It can be seen in action and is real.

Evolution also plays a large part in the theory of universal common descent.

The theory of universal common descent, based on evolutionary principles, was proposed by Charles Darwin in his book The Origin of Species. Almost everyone confuses this with evolution.

I do not believe in common descent. The idea that life originated in some primoridal soup can not be proven nor is there any reasonable evidence for it.

If there was enough evidence to consider it as "proof", scientists would be able to recreate it. Since there's never been a news story (that I know of) announcing that some scientist created his own bowl of primorial soup and created a new lifeform, I'd have to say they don't really know enough about the exact processes that allegedly took place for it to be considered proof...and isn't that what science is supposed to be about?

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the word science means "The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena. When it comes to common descent, the only part of that definition that comes in to play is theoretical explanation since they weren't there to observe it, they can't identify the "original" ancestor nor even describe it other than in very general and vague terms and it's impossible to do any experimental investigation. (Like I said before, there's nothing in the news about brand new lifeforms in the laboratory yet.)

Creation, on the other hand, was observed and documented...the documentation is called the Book of Genesis. While I have to believe in the Scriptures by faith, common descent theorists have to take what the scientists say on faith. There's no real physical "proof" either way.

Charles Darwins theory- a theory so beautiful and illustrious, is still perpetually being subjugated and rejected by fundamental bible thumping religious nuts who overtly ignore scientific evidence just to support erroneous, preposterous myths. Not a single shread of evidence can be provided to support that we did evolve from Adam, yet there is mountains of evidence to demonstrate that the theory of evolution is in fact, accurate. It is really a shame. Even after Copernicus, people still believe that the earth is flat. No matter the abundance of scientific evidence which is propagated, it will continue to be attacked by the religious fanatics whose insistence on biblical literalism is conquering the world.

I tried to convince my fellow Christians about this very topic a few days ago, which unfortunately did not go too well.

Science is not a question of belief. It is looking for evidence, testing hypotheses, making predictions, experimenting etc. When a hypothesis explains all the known evidence it gets the status of a theory. That is as good as it gets in science. Gravity, electricity and evolution are all theories. I don't "believe" in any of them, I accept them as explaining the evidence and having the ability to make predictions which turn out to be true.

The evidence has been in for awhile. It is time for the believers to advance from medieval times. Humans evolved like all other life on this planet.

there are evidence stating that we humans may have envolve from monkeys but there was a stage missing inbetween the process. i believe we were just placed on this earth by god. this is proven in the bible. the following verse is found in the book of genesis.

Ge 1:26 Then God said, ¡°Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.
Ge 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Created, or evoluted! Matters not. It's all part of the plan. Nothing dis-proves God.
