My boss said to me today, well if you can't perform, I have several other workers who are just as qualified to work your job.
Has it really come down to that? Employers used to beg for workers to stay. Now they don't care as so many people are out for the same job.

I felt like telling my boss this: "What Goes Around Comes Around".

The truth is that there probably are others waiting for your job, regardless of what you do. However, your boss is is not the most professional in pointing this out to you rather than encouraging you and helping you to excel (especially if you have a good attitude and are trying hard to meet your objectives).

It depends on the job, but employers would really rather retain skilled workers than train new ones. Employment is good right now so tell him to take his job and can it! Go to work for someone who appreciates you.

I'm sorry to hear that.
I get that not from my boss but from cranky customers. Even customers tell you how to do your job these days. I guess getting a worker isn't so hard anymore.
But... don't give in. Prove your boss wrong. If you've done your best and you still get such comments then it's time for a change. You don't have to stay in a job that demotivates you.

Yes. There are tons of unemployed people out there who would love to take any job that becomes available. If an employer puts out an ad for 1 position they might get 100 applications for it.

If you are unhappy at your job and may not have the desire to perform your best, I'd start looking for another job.
Don't quit unless you are able to get by financially until you find another job, otherwise wait until he fires you. If he has given you unsatisfactory evaluations, and can prove you were not improving, you may not be able to collect unemployment.
There may be other reason not mentioned in your question, mental/physical abilities. But, if you are not enjoying what you are currently doing, why stay and be miserable?

Have you SEEN our economy today?
YES!!!
Unless you are one-of-a-kind (i.e. working for a top secret government project), you ARE replacable.
Employers were never begging for workers to stay. If you have a lot to offer, then sure an employer will want you to stay. It's NEVER been the case that an employer wanted any ol' employee to just stay.

Depends on the job. I'm quite valuable in my position right now. If I left they'd be hurting. If you work at a fast food place, grocery store or some place simple then sure you can be replaced real easy. I work for a huge corporation in the AR dept.

You better believe it! The key here is to make yourself indispensable (not an easy task). Just don't stick around a place that's not going to get you anywhere (further up the ladder).

well i have the perfect solution. i work in a sweat shop grocery. no holidays, little if any benifits, ghetto type neighborhood and i need two different languages to survive. if they really want it they can have it. no its not glamorous but i dont have these fears. no one waits to take my job but i work to live i dont live to work and believe your happiness is in that type of philosophy.
