So how long do I wait before calling him to just see how things are?

Give yourself 1 week. If he hasn't called you, it's pretty safe to say that there is no need to call. I would let him make the first all important call, then take it from there.

Broken up, so why bother to call?
He was just being nice to tell you to call but as time passes by, he will change his mind.
Since the relationship is over, just get over it. Don't hang there like what you are doing now. Maybe for a while you are not used to it as you have his company everyday. Something seems to be missing from your daily routine. Don't worry. You still have your other friend and family members around you. Look them up...

If you really want to get over him, don't call him. If you are alright with you and him just being friends now, wait a day or two and then just ask how he is. Don't get in a long conversation and say you have to go, but don't call him too quick. Good luck!

The effect that calling him would have depends on who left whom, but in either case, it's not a good idea.
If he left you, then it wasn't a good idea for him to tell you it was ok to call anytime. Having said that, you're not going to bring him back by doing so.
If you left him, then calling him again would send mixed signals, which would ultimately only hurt him more.
Your best bet is not to call at all, and just let it go the best you can. Move on and start dating other guys.

wait until u can't wait any longer and then wait some more.....unless u want to be with him in that case call just remember that he has to want the same things as u do or you are doomed, I'm sure it's tough but let some time go by and see what happens

if you want to get over him (even if you were the heart breaker you still need to move on) dont call him.. i made that mistake and it took me a very long time to move on...
