Perfectly wise, loving, radiant, strong and all that this entails?

If so, are you still looking for a way to become like this? Or have you become content and satisfied with the way you are and with the general imperfections of those around you who have decided to remain likewise? Nevermind for now if it is possible or not. We are not building infinite skyscrapers, we are simply choosing a path.

Some of you have said in previous questions: "I am trying to be a better person each day." But I think that any of you who have been parents for a length of time know perfectly well that even a child that is gentle by disposition must still learn the ins and outs of the art of moral conduct. The same child may even be rather disabled, for whatever reason, when it comes to doing certain tasks and thereby requires special assistance from an outside source. The master teaches the student. The student cannot make himself a master.

Yes, I am making references to Christianity. Please do not panic.

Printninja,

Progress is not a goal. Know what I mean?

J.P,

There were many artists who said that the world (nature) itself was their teacher. They were still taught, just not by men.

fospauaar,

Our children will also inherit what we once were. All our wisdom and foolish, our healthy products and our unhealthy products. Even if you do not believe in an afterlife for yourself, they are surely an afterlife.

Masters become masters by first being students. 'In the beginning' no one starts out with everything. 'It takes a village to raise a child'. It makes a lot more sense that a group of different individuals start with trials and tribulations and then share with each other (or their descendant) what they've learned so that, if the person pays attention, they adhere to that advice and are able to devote more energy/time to another pursuit. That makes more sense than one perfect individual starts creating for no apparent reason at all. What's the motivation? Being 'perfect', 'it' can't get bored or lonely. Also, being omniscient, why would 'it' create anything that will cause it any negativity? The 'free will' argument doesn't work b/c, being omniscient, 'it' could give anything it created all the free will it wants but 'it's' still going to know what the choice will be.

In the beginning (LOL!) the student does indeed need a master - to set the bar, to provide encouragement, to suggest methods and outcomes. But at the end of the day, the student can indeed make himself a master. And they must, or there will be no mastery. Mastery implies:

This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Author: William Shakespeare from Hamlet

Those who really seek the path to enlightenment dictate terms to their mind. They then proceed with strong determination. Buddha.

in my interpretation, mastery demands going beyond the teacher. Otherwise, you are simply replicating someone else's formula - therefore, no mastery. As long as I am here to draw breath, I will look to expand my understanding and expression of these terms and ideals. Namaste.

The student can, in fact, make him or herself a master.

Some of the greatest artists ever to live had no teacher -- they picked up the brush or pen, they picked up the flute or violin, sat at the piano, and they simply played with the tool, got to know it personally, got to know it in and out, without outside help.

And because they came to it with no preconceived notion, and because they had no sense of "this is the one way it MUST be done" that teachers so often bring to the table... they became masters.

They were not afraid to reach for the stars, and to keep reaching until they danced among them, and would let no one steal the journey from them.

a thanks to change into an Atheist: a million) Care about no matter if what you compromise for as genuine is somewhat genuine or no longer. 2) keep in mind that the exam of independently-verifiable evidence is the in elementary words solid technique for wisely determining what's genuine about objective certainty. 3) renowned that there is really no evidence by any means for the existence of a few thing supernatural, mutually with God.

Well, of course I would say that I'm continually trying to become a perfect person, though reason tells me that it's not really possible. We all have imperfections, and I'm at peace with that fact, though it still won't stop me from striving to be better.

I just do the best I can. I make mistakes like anybody else. I try to fix them. That's pretty much it. Sometimes I need help, I turn to family and friends or research on the Internet. I just do the best I can. Besides it's my inperfections that make me human.

Sorry, but the goal is progress, not perfection.

This is why Christians just don't "get it."
