Christianity is not a cult. It is one of the few religions on the earth that never was. It was born "old."
Religions usually go through the phase of sect - cult - religion.
A regular religion gets a sect, a small group of people whose beliefs differ from the mainstream, but the basic beliefs are the same.
Then, the sect breaks away and forms a cult. Small group, charismatic leader, oral tradition, secretive.
The sect becomes a religion with the following: text-based scripture; and leader dies or steps down, yet the group continues to thrive.

Christianity was a sect of Judiasm until Christ died. Remember, Christ was Jewish. Then, because they had the already had written scripture, and already had a leadership change, they went instantly from Sect to Religion.

Good luck!

You call yourself a Christian, and people still refer to your religion as a cult?

There are several reasons.
You are a follower of one of the following:
Jehovah's Witness (Charles T. Russell)
Mormon (LDS Church) (Joseph Smith)
7th Day Adventist (Ellen G. White)
Christian Scientist (Mary Baker Eddy)

These are widely referred to a Christian cults. Denying the Deity of Jesus, and adding to, taking away, or mistranslating the Bible, and/or maintaining an exclusive membership requirement for attaining heaven are all earmarks of a cult.

If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, then believe in ALL of them, not just the ones you are told to believe.

I really doubt that you can. We all have opinions, and there are those who simply believe that Christianity IS a cult. It started with the Romans, so you have a lot of addressing to do.

But here's a thought.............
If you refrain from answering questions with lengthy Bible quotes, refrain from condemning the rest of us who have different beliefs, and practice the golden rule, you will be on a positive track to being taken more seriously. Good luck, and namaste.

EDIT: LMFAO to HEVN BD: girl, if you are going to call someone out on their spelling check your own. It is "JIST", not jest

First of all your spelling is deplorable, and yes there are many so called christian religions out there that are simply cults, and they attract the gullible, the uneducated, the poor, the elderly, and the hopeless, and if you belong to one of these religions then maybe you need to ask some questions ?, as a catholic I continue to ask questions as to what is being said.

By definition all religious groups are cults. Don't let it hurt you, and use it as a chance to tell them about how being a Christian helps you have a better life and inspires you to help others.

The word cult has many meanings. In one sense, being a part of any religion is being a part of a cult. Any early religion is considered a cult before it becomes mainstream.

The word cult doesn't necessarily have to be considered bad.

Some may mean it as a derogatory term, but it is likely that many who use the word don't really understand it.

Are you part of a cult...Are you an offshoot of fundamental Christianity that denies the Deity of Christ or separates you from Proper Christian Theology?

You don't...

If you feel threatened by mere words how strong are your convictions? Answer this and you will know the right thing to say or do.. In the meantime just smile and say "You are entitled to your opinion." and walk away...
