Were we?
This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.
This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.
At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.
We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.
These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.
From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.
I hope that helps to answered your question.
Love and blessings Don

just to have fun
live in the society
build big buildings
destroy everything so that new can come after us
don't think there is no grander purpose
if it would be there
then we would be God's favorite creation other than Humans.
Atlest all others help his creation Mother Nature but not we.
So nothing much to worry or think
Every starting must have an end that has to come from humans.

Depends on what you want to know...
Biologically - to breed and pass our genes down to the next generation.
Spiritually - to love God, our Creator, and know Him as much as we can.
Emotionally - to assist our brothers and sisters (all mankind) in this struggle we call life.
The great thing is that all three work in concert with each other. Not one negates the other. Together, they spell out our true purpose on this earth.

Yes, I can. The truth according to Sumerian Texts and Egyptian texts, which is all ancient history, is that the gods needed someone to grow their food and work their gold mines. And, here we are.

why do people insist on asking other people this question? we don't know for certain. we may not even have a purpose.
edit: "To know, love and serve God so that we may be happy with Him in Heaven for all eternity. "
why didn't he just make us and put us in heaven? was he bored? whomever made this stuff up could have done a better job

Because God is like a little kid hiding in his closet playing with his chemistry set and our whole universe is in a test tube. His parents just havn't caught him yet, flushed us down the toilet and given him a good spanking.

It says in scripture that we were created for God's pleasure.
That is not to say, His amusement. He wanted children who would choose to love Him. So, He gave us a free will. Love is sincere when it is a choice.
This is the non-theological, quick answer. Hope it gives a little insight.

Dicey question. We evolved, or course, but we ARE special. The meaning of live is to love, be loved, and to spread that love to others. Its simple isnt it? Thats all. Just love, and and you are in Gods Book forever and ever.

Humans were created to worship. God gave us the choice to worship whatever we wanted, be it Him, sex, drugs, money, yourself, sports, friends, etc. You can't deny that we feel obligated to worship something--everyone is aware of that inexplicable void in their lives that needs to be filled with something. It can only be completely filled with God; trying to fill it with anything other than Him will leave you feeling empty.
