We would like to have something other than just cake, so we're thinking of doing a dessert of some other sort instead of a grooms cake. Would a nice fruit tart work well? Do any of you have better alternative suggestions?

Just to be clear, we don't want a groom's CAKE. In any form.

The tart idea is good, you could also go with something like strawberry shortcake or you and your soon to be's favorite dessert whether it be the tarts or even little cinnabuns

I think that is strictly a southern thing...I'm from Pennsylvania, and the only time I ever saw a groom's cake was on tv! Nobody does that where I'm from....I would say a fruit tart would be nice, but if you're trying to give an alternative to cake, tart is kind of similar....how about a custard served with some fresh berries? They could serve it in a red wine galss with or without a small amount of raspberry liquor drizzled over the berries...its a very elegant and delicious dish-very light, too.

I'm southern so I like either a cobbler (easy to do in individual servings),strawberry short cake (which is a biscuit not a cake) or a pecan pie.

Parfait would be excellent too. Creme brulee would be cool--nice individual portions, but not very good if you have leftovers. Perhaps a custard pie. Or banana pudding.

Fried pies are nice hand size. We have fried apple pies that are fabulous.

One of my friends is doing baklava for hers and has some pictures for how to stack that. Very creative with the angles.

I saw a tower of doughnuts in a bridal magazine and that was amazing.

Any alternative would be a great idea, very unique--I'd just try to figure out a way to stack them so that it still has the overall look of a grooms cake though. Even if you use tarts, you can get a stand to arrange them and look like a cake.

Hope this helps!

At my wedding, fruit tarts were the only 'cake', and it was a big hit! My beloved doesn't care for cake, and I'm known for my pies, so it was just right for us.

I like the idea of having something other than cake as the groom's cake, because it gives the guests a little bit of a choice. Other options might include: brownies, cookies, chocolate-dipped strawberries...really any sweet thing you'd like.

Any sort of dessert he likes would be fine. Fruit tarts sound yummy. Cheesecake, chocolate dipped fruits, or even puddings or pastry would be fine too. I was at a wedding where the groom cake was made out of doughnuts.

I love the fruit tart idea, especially if you are having a summer wedding. Lemon tarts are soooo good and refreshing. It would be an excellent lighter alternative to a cake. A wedding I went to also did individual sized cheesecakes with friut....that was yummy as well.

My groom isn't a cake person so we are talking about having a pie tower for him. Bottom layer pecan, then banana cream, and another flavor. He loves pie and cheesecake so there will be mini cheesecakes as well.

I also have the idea of the milk and cookie bar that we probably won't be able to do.

When my aunt and uncle got married, they had a tray that "stacked" I guess you could say, and they made cupcakes. It looked like a cake altogether, but... it wasn't.
If there are little kids there, or alot of guests that you know aren't partial to cake, or that won't eat dessert, it's a good option.
And they have some pretty funky flavors nowadays for cupcakes! That way you won't have just.... chocolate!

I saw a "cake" made of stacked donuts. The couple added a fondue chocolate fountain next to it. They had fresh fruit, graham crackers, pretzels, marsh mellows, really almost anything you might want dipped in chocolate. Everyone had a blast with it and it really showed the couples' fun personality.
