I am on Opana (oxymorphone) therapy for a degenerative back disorder. Is it stronger than, or equal to oxycontin? Or what is its equivalent miligram dosage? I take Opana 10mg Extended Release (2x a day), and Opana 5mg (4 to 6 a day) for the inbetween times. Ive been on Oxycontin too, but the withdrawal from that was worse than the oxymorphone when I took a break from it. The oxycontin also didnt seem to work as well. Is that normal? I was surprised to not have any withdrawal pains when I went off the oxymorphone, thank God. Can anyone tell me what my Opana intake is equal to in regards to oxycontin, and if it is in fact a stronger medication. Thank you, and wish me luck. I dont want to have to take oxymorphone for the rest of my life. I will say that the oxymorphone is a Godsend at the moment. It lets me drive, walk almost normally, and live without the pain.. I even do yoga to try and help. But if someone can answer my first question, I thank you.

Oxymorphone is 6-8 times more powerful than morphine. Oxycontin is about 1.5 times more powerful than morphine. The second link I gave you says Oxymorphone is twice as potent as Oxycontin. I guess your body will be the judge as how much better it is.

I was on oxycontin and the insurance stop paying I had to be given a oxymorphone. I was on 80mg but I had been on this since the early 90s they had me take 40mg of oxymorphone and said it was equal to. Since then I haven been incapable of taking care of my family , home, and personal need. I am in so much pain I cant stand it . It doesn't work for me and I have servere headackes on morphine . I cant live in this body now. Is some of what im going through withdraws. My body is 90% damaged with bones, muscles, and joints all gone. My knee cap is not connected. I have a nine inch bone sticking out of my back that I can only use brace to stand it and one on the lower back. That's just part of the damage so I know a lot of mine is pain. I don't know what to do I don't want to tell my Doctor, for I don't want to seem like a drug addict. I am almost sixty years old and so tired of suffering. Please tell me what to do and what is happening and if u think my body will ajust or if its just pain.

One danger, or concept, all patients on oral narcotics need to know is that the "EXTENDED RELEASE" tablet, often is so powerfully held together that many individuals have discovered, almost by accident, that far more than 50% or of the drug in these tablets never dissolves-and do not yield up their drugs, before being expelld by the intestines. I have been shown pills in various states of "dissolution" with as much as 80% of the narcotic still in them! For a sick person, in terrible pain, to find out that the most powerful narcotics available, in slow acting form, are not even dissolving, is like a slap on the face--only it hurts a thousand times worse, because the opiates that might have helped are in the toilet!!!
If you get these, make sure you crush up the tabs about 60%. If it still doen't work, crush them to powder or dissolve them wrm water or booze and take them in separate doses.. Do not be a sucker and refuse to allow yourself the relief you are deserving of. This is fgllacy the church and MDs love---that it is bettr to suffer in agony than bother a MD for more medicien.
Opioid or Opiate narcotic medicine is the absolute cheapest and most effective stuff on the market for it's purpose=--pain control. Unfot\rtunamely it won't work for more than 2 or 3 weeks. CAREFULLY Add liquor and XANAX , or Valium and it will stretch, but doctors keep that s a secret only for other MDs. Patients ain't supposed to know what MD's do-that Booze or wine pllus Benzos will strtch out opiates; that opiates are a very bad long term pain drug --that aspirin or ibuprofen is better for osteoporosis. Use narcotics only if you ar dying or want to.
And then, sleeping pills and lots of booze are better than any amount of narcotics. I heard that breathing Helium is a fast painless way, to go. It might be for certain biochemical reasons.

Oxymorphone as a morphine derivative should have more analgesic effect than a codeine based synthetic like Oxycontin.
