it can be real...but people should not misuse it.....it shoudl be for private prayer and praise in a group when everyone is praying and you cannot really hear it well anyhow....the bible says one sould not speak in tongues out in the open for others to hear well., unless there is an interpretation available. otherwise they should hold their peace.. they are not to "show off"..that would insult the holy spirit.

Speaking in tongues is one of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. The book of Acts explains all of it. When a person is baptised with the Holy Spirit then they will be able to speak in other tongues. It is used a prayer language between them and God, and also it is the Holy Spirit giving a word to the body of the Church through a believer in the church with another believer interperting the word. It is a language spoken somewhere in the world, but not previously spoken by the believer. And yes it is real, and its the Holy Spirit not some kind of satanic language. There have been people present in the Church that speak that language and know exactly what that person is saying. Any one that knows that language understands everything being said, eventhough the interpertation was not given to them. The only requirement to be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be truely saved and born again. Its not for just a select few it is for all believers. And its not a requirement for salvation, but gives the believer the power through the Holy Spirit to use the gifts of the Spirit, thus being, the power of Healing, ect..........Every believer should study the book of Acts, and want to be filled with the Spirit. Then they can become a vessel used by God to carry out the works of God.

When I first became a christian , I went to a church that did that . We all fell for it . ( speaking in a language that we don't understand ) Years later my dad decided to " wake up " and actually read the verses that implies tongues and found it to be wrong . It is a gift though . It's a language that Peter spoke at the Pentecost and it implied that all understood him even though many spoke different languages . VERY FEW people have this gift . All that you hear at your church is some misguided people trying to talk to God through " angelic " talk . Non sense .

Speaking in tongues is a language one dose not know, it simply comes out of the mouth, as a catholic I do question the validity of speaking in tongues because there is no way of interpreting or understanding what is being said, so I simply see it as gibberish.

I bet it never made any sense to you or any one else what they were saying...To speak in tongues is to speak your own native tongue...it could be mexican, spanish, maori, english, chinese, these are speaking in tongues, and the lord will understand what they say, those others who say they speak in tongues and that the lord understands is a liar, because if you don't understand, or any one else don't understand, then the God who He is speaking to, whom He can't even see, won't understand him either...they are frauds...kia ora.
