The only time I have lucid dreams are in what seems like a nightmare. I often feel very scared even if there is nothing to be afraid of. In these dreams I often "close my eyes" because I am afraid of what I might see. Is there a way I can make myself have these dreams without being so scared.

Since you know of lucid dreaming you must learn to control your dreams now. Lucid dreaming is letting you know you are dreaming. A communication back to the outside consciouness. You must face what it is you are afraid to see. It will release you. Then you can progress on. While you are awake you will figure what it relates to in your life. The fear of the unkown. Let it be known you are not afraid!

Imagine walking out onto a gym mat at a gymnastics meet and trying not to be frightened as you are about to do a twisting backflip from a running start. Now imagine trying to do that without going to the gym and doing any practice whatsoever.

The time to work on your fright is not during the moment you are most afraid and most unable to think. Like a gymnast who works out at a gym before walking out onto the floor at a meet, you need to 'prepare' yourself to not be frightened in your dreams, which means you need to do that when you are awake.

I prefer doing it right after I have a nightmare, while the details are still fresh in my head, but it honestly doesnt matter. You can practice what you will do in your dreams before you go to bed as well. The important thing is to 'rehease' or imagine how you want the dream to turn out. If something is frightening you, imagine what it would take to make it go away: conjure a tornado, call in an airstrike, call the energizer bunny on your cell phone and have it pound the thing into shadow burgers with a 500 lb hammer it pulls out from behind its back, and then going back to beating on its drum.

The details are only as important as they 'work' for you. Think of the dream as your playground and paintbrush; it will do what you want it to do if you only prepare it a little.
