My daughter is 6. She broke into a rash. We have ticks bad around so I searched for a tick. I found one. I assume RMSF. Iasked if her neck hurt. She said yes. I felt for any tightness and swelling. I found a big not instead. Different location from tick. Dr. concluded that she has no infection and blood work is normal. He said the knot is a swollen lymph node. He said if it is not gone in a month bring her back. It has been a month. No illness of any kind. The knot is still present. It is the size of a bean. It is firm. No redness and no pain she says. It feels like it may be attached to something. It has not shrunk in size. No other lymph nodes are swollen. Should I be worried or is this a common issue. Just the one. I am going to get a specialist to check it because it is definately cause for concern to me b/c she is my baby. Any advice would be appreciated. Maybe it is just an over reaction but a mothers intuition is a powerful thing.

Go to the specialist. All they can really do at this point is to give her antibiotics. But you should know that swollen lymph nodes are extremely common and might not mean anything significant.

Not normal, unless she has the flu or something.

Blood work would pick up RMSF or Lyme Disease. Could be nothing, but I wouldn't play around with it. Many cancers manifest themselves in swollen/sore lymph nodes.

Swollen lymp can be a good sign. They help fight off infections and stuff like that. Mine used to be like that all the time growing up, but I am fine. My son gets them too sometimes and that is how I know his allergies are acting up. I wouldn't be too worried, but you can always get a second opinion. I say as long as she isn't sick, tired, or achy she is fine. But I understand the nervousness, I have 2 kids myself. And on Sat. my daughter fell down our stairs. She was fine except for the dollar coin sized purple bump on her head. I took into the ER anyway, my neighbors even said she was fine. I took her in because I had a head injury once while deployed and now I have neck probs. from it. I just wanted to make sure her neck and back was fine. But she is. :)
I say always go with your gut feeling and never feel as though you are worrying too much, a mother can never worry too much, lol.

Any time something is different, see a doctor. Get an opinion from a different doctor. Dermatologist would be a good idea.

Advice to mom; look in the mirror and say "YOU! are a good mom."

Most mothers don't bother so their children suffer.
