Religious leaders are obviously in it for the money, the power, the prestige, or perhaps more charitably the belief that their mythology can be a comfort to people. Regular believers are the "don't ask don't tell" crowd - they don't actually believe themselves, but they go along with it because they think other people believe it, and it's cosy and it's a nice social network.
So, no-one actually believes in anything as ridiculous as a god, but they pretend to believe for their own various reasons, and everyone assumes that other people believe when they say they do, even though really they don't...
Sound about right? Honestly, there can only be a tiny number of people who *actually* still believe in something so absurd...

I do believe in God, though it seems that you've made up your mind not to believe it even if it were true.
I have the same problem trying to explain this to my husband . . . He doesn't believe anyone would do anything unless there was something good in it for themselves. I disagree. I believe in altruism, and I believe in love. He calls me an idealist with my head in the clouds . . . I say, what do we have to work towards, if not our dreams?
I don't understand why you think belief in God is ridiculous and absurd. Maybe it's the same reason that I think it's ridiculous and absurd not to. It's something that seems very obvious to me, and is such a core part of my existence that to disbelieve in God would be death to who I am. Albeit, my definition of God is not what many would assume it to be. Honestly, it will take an eternity to accurately define God.
God is the spirit of a Loving Father . . . that's the closest I am willing to get to a meaningful definition for this purpose. I'm lucky in this life that I had a loving father as a wonderful example- many don't. When I think of how God would be, it would be the way I would want to be to my children- the way that kind of love is expressed. I have experienced that and cannot deny it, and firmly believe it is a super-animal action and experience.

I can understand quite well how it is that people might believe in God. I believe in a higher power myself. However, what I don't understand is how it is that people can be so arrogant to assume that their IDEA of God IS God. Every time I hear someone speaking about exactly who and what God is and how or what He (or She, or They etc.) feels, thinks or wants, I am utterly amazed by the incredible amount of arrogance being displayed. Yes, I realize that many people (myself included) have experiences that help them to find their own personal connection to the Divine. Some people refer to this as UPG (unsubstantiated personal gnosis). However, I think a lot of people make the mistake of taking their personal experiential evidence that God exists and assuming that it is proof that he exists as they believe.

The fact that Benny Hinn is still preaching to a flock sort of makes me want to disagree with you. At the same time, there are people numb enough to go just for the "nice social network" no matter how idiotic the leader is.
Meh.. :-)

You judge that the leaders you KNOW of are in it for the money and prestige.
I know of many who get nothing but mocking, ridicule at best and many who get torture, imprisonment, poverty and suffering.
You don't know about those leaders, because they aren't trying to impress you.
Stop listening to the phonies and seek the Lord yourself. When you do, he will guide you.

Actually, that sounds kind of right.
I know my Freq was religious more to fit in than anything else. I was kind of sad when I found that out. It bothers me when people aren't true to themselves the way they should be.

Sorry, I had an interaction with my gods that can only be disbelieved by holding it up to a standard no other reality is given.
My gods are real.
They aren't omnipotent, terrestrial or any other monotheistic nonsense.

If you believe that believing in God is absurd, that's up to you. And there are many, many people who love Jesus Christ. I'm one of them.

Sometimes honesty is as important as truth. I suspect there will always be the shadow of doubt in my mind, regarding God. But, I am as sure of him, as I am of my own existance. Honestly...
