In questioning the glaring contradiction between the first set of 10 Commandment which Moses destroyed in Exodus 20 and the second set of Commandments which God dictated in Exodus 34, I was told a number of times that Christians do not follow the 10 Commandments.
Then why do Christians try to display the 10 Commandments in our courthouses and why do they riot when those displays are removed?
And shouldn't somebody tell Kirk Cameron? He's built a whole Christian ministry based on the 10 Commandments.

Regius Filius Deus, you've never actually read the Bible, have you? I cite both the Bible and Christian Doctrine as evidence. Exodus 20 and Exodus 34 both claim to be the "10 Commandments" and they are absolutely nothing alike.

got_air? And then read verse 27,28 - "Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments."
Doesn't anyone read the Bible anymore? Clearly these Commandments are identified as the 10 Commandments both before and after God recites them. And surprise, surprise, there are 10 of them, too.

Those people are foolish. The "10" commandments most people regard are not even numbered and are not even called commandments. Most people don't know anything about their religion, they are just going with what people tell them.

Christians can and should display anything religious that they want to, and we have the constitutionally guaranteed right to do so.
The government may not establish a state religion, and the displaying of the Ten Commandments certainly isn't the same as telling you that you have to be a Christian. Especially when you realize that Christians, Jews and Muslims all recognize the validity of the Ten Commandments. Which religion exactly is the government forcing upon you by displaying these words?
The government is also not allowed to interfere with the expression of religious belief by any American. Forcing people to remove religious jewelry or displays would fall under that wouldn't it? Christians will not be content to hide their faith for atheists sake, just like atheists aren't willing to hide what they believe. Neither side should have to.

Read the first verse of chapter 34. It says He would write the "same" commandments as were on the first set of tablets Moses broke. Everything after the first verse is additional or reaffirming instructions.
edit: With all due respect, verse 1 clearly states that God Himself would write the "same" 10 commandments on the tablets. The verses you have referred to about Moses writing down instructions has to do with the verses after verse 1.

The 10 Commandments are still in play today. They are God's moral law to the world. The standard that He will judge us by on the Day of Judgment. Now, Christians are still supposed to try and follow the commandments, in fact God gives us a new heart with new desires so that we will be better able too. Its part of how we grow in holiness. The difference is, is that Christians are no longer condemned by the Law, because Jesus paid our fine for us. Those who have not repented of their sins and put their faith in Christ are still condemned by the Law. The fine is eternity in Hell.
As for Kirk, his ministry is based on teaching Christians how to share their faith Biblically and effectively. Just happens that the Commandments play a very important in doing that. They tell us what sin is, and show us our need for a savior.

Reality check...the 10 Commandments and other Biblical lawgivers and defenders of Biblical law are without and within all governmental buildings in Washington DC. The forefathers of this nation and with which the Declaration Of Independence, Constitution, Emancipation Proclamation were founded. Our forefathers believed in God Almighty and The Holy Bible and The 10 Commandments and our government leaders and the citizenry wished to make sure that any visitors (foreign & domestic) knew it.
All the state houses of government were the same.
The 10 Commandments are the IDEAL model for honest, law-abiding citizens within and outside of government to follow.
The separation of church and state argument by lobby groups have NO concept of this country's history nor of its founding fathers.
The argument is insane.
But then revisionist in education are rewriting our history to placate peoples by not asking them to think but have dumbed-down education to that of an 6 year old after 12 years of public education.
Students in public education are not learning about our nation's TRUE founding and principles...but then public education and Jay Leno proved that teachers and students alike have no basic knowledge of this nation's history or of its forefathers...period.
And this question only emphasizes general populace ignorance. The 10 Commandments have been displayed in ALL city, state, and government buildings since their creation. Only now are they trying to erase all evidence of our Christian beginnings and our Biblical measuring stick, like the 10 Commandments, & The Golden Rule.

I've heard that the laws of our nation are based on the 10 Commandments. If this is true, why aren't the 10 Commandments also law???
Why isn't it illegal to
1. Worship other gods
2. Make idols
3. Take the name of god in vain
4. Work on the Sabbath
5. Disobey your parents
6. Commit adultery
The only ones of the commandments that are illegal are, the ones mentioning murdering, stealing, and lying (in a court of law).
Could it be that the ones that aren't illegal are so because that would be going against the US Constitution?
Apparentlly the US Constitution carrys more weight than the 10 Commandments. I wonder why that is....

How can you possibly know that there were "glaring contradictions" between the two sets of commandments when you weren't alive to view the first to compare to the second? Incidentally, taking this line of thinking accuses God and Moses of short term memory loss or something worse. Can you cite even ONE credible source on this? (by credible, I'm NOT referring to anything from the German school of form criticism)

Wow,a subject i am learning more about and love to touch basis on,o.k. to touch basis with yummygood,i`d like to add this:The book of Daniel and Isiaih will explain a lot of things of what is and whats to come.1st we are imperfect individuals trying to make it.God grows indifferent people different ways.Paul the writer of most of these books had problems as the rest of us.Ithink we take things out of context when we start reading the Bible of acknowledging our faith of existence. We start to transform and conform ourselves whether we like it or knwo it or not.We at times question the Bible cos we don`t understand it and find it very confusinf and contradictory. So,we interpret it to our liking or understanding or sahll i dare say misunderstanding. As,yummygood brings out in the book of Romans it compliments Isaiah and Daniel for the reason being, instructions.Being sais this,I have a question,How,do you think personally we were created and do you beieve there is life on the other planets, last but not least, what about thye past history. Please get back to me .

We follow Christ. We live by the "law written on the heart".
If you live by the Spirit, you will not gratify the lust of the flesh (to disobey God's law).
The ministry of Cameron is about showing the fact that we all transgress God's law (the ten commandments).
There are good apologetics on the differences between the two renditions of the Ten Commandments. It's a language issue, not an issue of specific variances or differences.
As Christians, we do live to obey God. Anyone who teaches otherwise is in error. But, we do not live BY the law, we live BY the Spirit.

I think you misunderstood. Christians aren't put right with God by law. But when we follow Christ, we automatically want to do the law. In the old testament they followed the law to be good people and earn their way to heaven. That was the old covenant. But because no man could ever be good as Isaiah said, " Every man has gone astray. There is no one who is good. No, not one," God sent Jesus to pay for our sins. All that we have to do is accept and follow him, and when we do that he gives us his spirit and it helps us conquer the sin in our lives. So focusing on Christ and receiving his holy spirit enables you to be a better person than when you focus on being a "good person" by trying to follow the law. Do you see the difference? It's hard to explain. Paul explains it, too, in his letter to the Romans.
