Here is the story. I had a Bible that I have used since 1987. My dog got ahold of it and ate/tore out about 10-15 pages. It is damaged I will never use it again. Is there a proper way to distroy it? Should I just throw it away?

I would just hang on to it. You had the bible since 1987. The bible is a part of you. You problay wrote in the bible of specail events or some sort like that right? So, hang on to it.

I am pleased to hear you use it often enough to wear it out. Many use it to bash others but not many get worn out.
Only the Torah teaches that the Bible must be burned.
Most religions believe the Word of God is not the book you read as such they can be thrown away or whatever you want to do with them. We should never throw away a family Bible.
I also kept all of my children's 1st Bibles with notes & etc..
The rest I throw away when no longer useable.

Throw it away, burn it or destroy it. It does not matter whether you destroy that bible or you keep it. What does matter is that the words in that bible is kept in your heart. The Bible is just a book, the important things are the words that is kept on that bible.

Before you burn it, it is necessary to obtain a disposal certificate from your local Diocesan authority who will conduct a small private ceremony( usually in Rome) to mourn the passing of a bible. Failure to do so will result in after-life punishments so bad that I can barely stop laughing !

Nowhere in the Bible is a specific method of disposal outlined, so maybe you should let your conscience be the judge.

Just throw it away. It's served its purpose. The value of a copy of Holy Scripture is to be measured NOT by how you dispose of it - but "how it was used when it was usable".

You could just leave it on the coffee table, and everybody could think you really used it a lot.

The book doesn't matter, burn it, throw it away, whatever. It's the words (message) that matters.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules, but do you want your Bible laying in a landfill somewhere? I would burn it, that seems a little more respectable.
