I am intrigued by the relationship between science and religion and would enjoy partaking in thoughtful, open, friendly discussion on this topic..But every time I try asking a question I feel I'm being bombarded by all these "true believers" (on BOTH sides) with their boring pre-packaged answers to every question. That's not what I'm looking for at all! Anyone else feel this way?

I am heartened by all the positive answers. It was pointed out that this may not be the right place for what I'm looking for and a Yahoo Group might be better. How do I find out about them?

Maybe you need to be more specific with your questions that you ask in here. If you are in Yahoo answers for thoughtful, open, and friendly discussion, you may want to consider on joining a Yahoo Group instead. Because in here, sometimes people are rude or sometimes people just make a brief statement with an answer that you may not want to hear. Anyway, just a thought.

You will get plenty of bad answers here, but there is treasure amid the trash. I'll add you to my contact list and respond to your questions as appropriate.

There is overwhelming ignorance and bias on all sides of this issue. By far the best, most balanced, intellectually solid and honest work I've seen on the subject is The Language of God, see reference. The author is a well respected scientist, head of the Human Genome Project. Science and the God of the Bible are not inconsistent, but you need to understand both to understand the relationship.

It's hard to sustain bad science, since it's testable (falsifiable). But anyone can make false statements about God and build their own religion or cult around themselves.

Some folks really do have pre-packaged answers; but bear in mind that many people keeping asking the same questions over and over and over... and although most of us here do write (ie, not copy/paste) answers each time, it starts to sound like a broken record, giving more or less the same answer for a question that's been asked repeatedly.

Sorry, but these forums aren't really discussion oriented. You'd be better off to look elsewhere or even just have these discussions with people you know well enough to take you seriously.

Also, you should read Tao of Physics and Dancing Wu Li Masters if you want to learn more on the subject.

Yes, I feel that way more often than not. I have frequented this forum and there are times it is a true exercise in patience and tolerance. ~LOL~
There are quite a few people on here that offer beautiful insights. You just have to dig a bit to find some of them as they tend not to be the most vocal.

Hooray!
I believe in God, but I believe evolution is the most likely process used to get the universe to where it is now. I've studied science at both HS and Uni, and yet I have found a way to somehow reconcile this with my beliefs, for me it has made them stronger.

I think its well worth discussing, even though I am an atheist. Religion is an integral part of many peoples' lives, thus it has a big influence on society. I may not agree with you, but discussion is where we meet.

Galileo had a time with this too

it almost cost him his life

I have seen both religion and science change based on research and discovery

in the end, man's studiousness affects history and religion, but a god tends to change based on scientific data

You can start your own Yahoo Group for a discussion such as this. I would join!
