I just have a hard time wondering why people would want to do something like that. Piercings, if small will heal, but tattoos are FOREVER. If someone does that to "join" the group, that's foolish. If it's to attract someone else, some long hard thought is in order. Smoking was like that when I was like that when I was growing up. If you didn't smoke you were just not accepted. I was not accepted. Remember some day you will be old and may wonder why you did what you did.

It would be nice if it didn't but it does. The good news is that how they change thier opinion can be to your advantage on occasion.
15 years ago you were a '1%', past inmate, drug dealer, loser or some gang property. Now, it can mean the same thing still to some people, or some may think your a big poser or follower now that it's 'in' to have a tattoo. If it is not your own design or a personal design, this 'idiot/follower/wannabe' distain is pretty common. Remember, 'flash' is not always your friend.
People may view you as irresponsible, impulsive and not able to see life 'long term' or make wise life decisions and choices.
If you work in the entertainment industry, alternative beauty or record style biz, it can add legitimacy or individuality points. It's also a pretty cool icebreaker at parties if it is an original and personal design that makes a statement.
Whatever you wear or do tells people who you are and don't be fooled, they are judging you. So as long as you are aware, you can also manipulate that message to the situation. I learned many years ago that manipulating your image is far wiser than impressing your friends. (I show my leg when *I* want. tattooed from knee to hip)
Good luck and this is my experience (being an illistrated woman myself including my eyeliner). It's a free opinion, and ya get what you pay for!! LOL
Very best regards,
Kim

They don’t change my opinion of someone, but there will always be someone who doesn’t accept you because you have a tattoo/piercing.
Walking down the street if i saw someone with a full sleeve a couple of years ago i would be scared of them. Back then only ex-cons and military people had them. Times are changing, and more people are getting tattoos. But for some people, mostly older, they still associate tattoos with people that you don’t want to hang with, when really it is an expression of art.
It also depends on how big/what the tattoo is. A lot of people think full sleeve is gross.

No, But I hate when people admit that they don't.
Whether it's out loud, or kept personal and "mind thoughts"only, we all tend to take a double glance a someone with tattoos and piercings.
I mean in overall population, they re rare, so we look and think "why?who?what?", it's not a bad thing, It's human curiosity, we judge ,we look, we label.
It's just a matter if you hold that judgment to the last word/thought.
I look at someone and think "ewwww who would want that?
or I sometimes think say "ooh I want something like that !", but I don't let that judgment good or bad determine whether not i should talk or get to know that person.
Like another man said, it shouldn't be a window to a person's perosnality.
I can't stress enough thatwere different, we want different things, and that what on the inside is truly what keep's the people you love loving back.
peace.

Tattoos and piercings do not change my opinion of someone. I have a tattoo and a piercing, and (though I know it happens) do not think it is right for other people to judge me. Who says that their version of "right/wrong" is actually correct? Who gave them the power to judge me, determine my value as a person? If I let them get to me, I am the one giving them the power over me. My tattoo and my piercing can only be seen when I wear a swim suit, and only then if it is a 2-piece. If someone is so small-minded that if something that I do that does not actually affect them in any way will change their opinion of me, then that is a person with whom I do not wish to associate.
To each his (or her) own!!!

People pass judgement all the time. They might not like your tattoos/piercings, or that someone else is overweight, or whatever. I think we are all guilty of it sometimes, especially if we ourselves are insecure.
I found this really cool quote:
"The tattoo is the mark of the soul. It can act as a window to which we can see inside, or it can be a shield to protect us from those who cannot see past the surface."
I have a few tattoo's. I work in a doctors office, so I keep them covered at work.

Mostly not, but rarely yes, and not in the way you think.
I bumped into someone I knew from a while back & saw that she had a shoulder to arm tattoo that reminded me a lot of a passage I remember reading from the Bhagavad Gita. I spoke with her a bit and found she was rather into Hindu philosophy. She'd never struck me previously as the particularly deep type. This changed that perception. Sometimes the art does indeed serve as a window to the soul.

No, they don't. I know plenty of pierced and tattooed people (including myself), and they run the same gamut of possible personalities as non-pierced and tattooed people.
Looks are, in general, a bad thing to judge people on.
There is one acception to that, actually. If I see someone with a beautiful well-done tattoo, and well kempt piercings, I tend to infer from that that they have higher self esteem than someone with crappy tattoos and gross-looking piercings. Generally, that's correct. But not always. It's not an assumption I hold too strongly to, but there's a good correlation.
But really, that can be applied to basic hygiene as well.

lets be honest people judge u by the way u look. when i had all my piercings nobody will hire me they didn't take me serious and people at school once they started to talk to me they will tell me wow ur really different then i pictured i thought u were the kind of person thats rude and want no human contact. so i took them off and it really did change my life a have a great job that i know i won't have gotten it if i still looked like the past. people are very close minded cuz society revolves around followers!

I don't think any less of those with tattoos and piercings because I'm one of them. As I also don't think any different of those without them. It's not my body. Without them I'm the same person. The stereo types are just for those that don't care to get to know someone and would rather make an unjustified judgment. It's all a load of bull if you ask me but hey, to each their own. If you don't like me with my piercings and tattoo then you probably wouldn't like me without them. I'm more inclined to talk to someone with both or either more to find out what they mean, when they got them, just talk ... because it shows individual personality. I like your question-getting a star from me!

i would never in my life judge a book by its colour if someone has a tat maybe it means something to them or is of a great value to them. Piercings are kinda the same but not a piercing can actually tell you more about the person.
